Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IE day return tickets: any benefit to buying online?

In terms of fares, as far as I can see, there is no benefit to buying a day return to Dublin in advance on the IE website.

The fare is fixed, in advance or on the morning of departure.

However, should I still book online to secure a seat?

The return journey would be leaving Dublin Connolly at maybe 4-6pm on a Friday.

By booking online, in advance, I am guaranteed a reserved seat.

Whereas if I buy at station on morning of departure, I don't have a reserved seat on the return train?

    Is that correct?

That's essentially it. Sometimes your seat will be occupied - if you don't get a seat, you are entitled to a refund.

However, if you buy one of the advanced webfares, they are usually cheaper, except on busy days. You are restricted to those particular trains, but can pay a surcharge at the station to change.

It all depends on the time and day of travel - there can be cheaper options online depending on the route or if there is a sale.

I find it more expensive sometimes. Eg: Buying online day before departure from Athlone to Kildare is €19.20 online.

Buy in the station on the day and it's €17.20.
