NCHurricane2009 whose blog I follow every year (fantastic analyses of the Atlantic during hurricane seasons) predicted a couple of days ago that it would reach category 5, although he has backed down from that intensity forecast since.

Gonzalo is now a Cat 4 hurricane, the strongest storm since 2011.

    Moving: NW at 12 mph

Most recent model runs show the remnants racing east across (northern areas) Ireland and Britain early Tuesday 21st. Would expect gusts to 110 km/hr in exposed areas, 15-25 mm rainfalls, but temperatures will be far too mild for snow, around 12-15 C. A significant event but hardly a "monster hurricane" at that point.

^^ Those images are of the large north Atlantic low, not hurricane Gonzalo.

The official forecast track takes it only about 20km west of Bermuda.

Re-gained Cat 4 status this morning.

Lol,UK press using false reporting to big up a story, who'd have thought.

I was wondering that all right when I looked at them,it must have been the fastest moving storm in history to get that far northwest so quickly.

The Bermuda Weather Service Radar looked like this a few hours ago

    325564.png

Eyewall about 35 miles across, according to Weather Underground.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Sounds like a jet afterburner. The seas are fairly choppy now, and won't be long till it breaches the sea wall. A direct hit forecast, hopefully those who stayed will be alright.

Latest radar image. Viewing the animated loop, it looks like the eye will pass right over the island.

The northern part of the eye should be reaching the island now looking at the latest radar loop. The winds might drop away soon.

Don't know why the warning about heavy rain and flooding in the South and West, lovely day in Galway and not a lot on the radar

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭sunbabe08

seriously i decided not to go to college today because of this yellow warning, it hasn't rained at all in the city. besides the howling wind it's actually a grand oul day

The warning for heavy showers has got nothing to do with this hurricane guys. Remains of Gonzalo won't be around our parts until Tuesday...
