goals still a problem, created no clear chances and conceding 1-20 not great either. great to win the 2 pts but plenty for JBM to keep their feet on the ground with

Huge difference in quality of striking between both teams.

Cork striking was true, flat and accurate while Dublins striking is all on a loop...

Cork were lively upfront...hungry and deadly accurate good to see. Pity we didn't put the head down once or twice and go for goal though.

Dublin were very bad...very very bad.

Footballers not having any problems scoring goals anyway! Seems to be a great performance so far. Listening on Radio Kerry. Wheeshie stressing how poor kerry are so far.

Edit Kerry goal and fisty cuffs afterwards

Kerry must be keeping their powder dry for the summer. we should know from last year the difference from league to championship

Barry John Keane gave Tom Clon a lot of bother but apart from him the Cork backs were well on top. Donaghy was at his usual sledging and just had to stick his nose into everything. No doubt Kerry will be better when O Donoghue and Gooch return but their backs are not good and with any kind of parity around the middle they are very beatable.
Them Driscolls are some clan. Tough as nails and good footballers too.
That is a decent subs bench too, Donnacha, Daniel and John Hayes along with Kerrigan and Dorman would start on most intercounty teams IMHO so we shouldn't be too negative in our comments about Killarney later in the year.
With proper discipline and focus we have the players to cause another upset. 11 points is a fair old beating and we were worth every point of it.
Now is the time to refine the system and forget about winning this league. Let the good times roll.

some good results and credit due alright but last year's league was the same and we all know how the championship went.

Anyone that changes their opinion of him based on a couple of lge results haven't a clue in my opinion. He will cost us - yet again- in the championship, when the pressure is really on.

Super win today. Great to give them a bit of a roasting. We've been here before however and we all know how the next meeting went!

Some great scores, great movement and our full forward line got the ball they needed and they did damage. Some of the running was impressive and we look to be very fit. Cadogan had a fine game but our midfield will come under huge pressure in the summer. When they pushed up on us and stopped us playing it out short we lost a lot possession to their midfield.
Kerry really looked like one trick ponies for their part for the first half in particular - high ball to donaghy and see what happens. When this didn't work I think they only scored 3 points from elsewhere. Not sure why they would take off their main free taker after 20 mins, Moran was not up to taking over and they lost a few scores as a result.

Either way, 2 hugely impressive wins for the rebels this weekend, a real pity Rochestown were not able to get over the line- but huge credit to them and we will certainly see more from those lads in the future!

Fair point. Cubby has done very well so far, this season. The appointment of Pat Flanagan was a master stroke IMO and getting Ronan Mac back so quickly was also a big plus.

Management was very green last season but I'm hopeful lessons have been learned.

Let's praise the bridge as you cross it - I would have been very opposed to giving Cuthbert another term but now .....?

IMO Cuthbert is facing a huge issue with Ken O Halloran - he was shocking today and I wonder will Martin get a go now that we are safe from relegation - this issue could define Cuthbert's management - I have some symparthy for him as he knows KOH very well and is aware of how good he is when on form but his form has deserted him at this point in time. What should he do?

Imagine what they would have won by without him? Watched the game and saw "cubby" on line and thought he doesn't look like an allireland winning manager. He seems to be always hopeful as he said before mayo quarter final never sure. Also, and this may be validated by others but there was a few too many fellas who were effective because of their fitness today, and I would suggest their skill level/football intelligence will be exposed later. As always I hope im wrong but would rather it never got tested to begin with.

Great win because beating Kerry anytime just feels so good ...ok its only the leauge and we will take the win for what its worth ...but right now it feels good ! Eoin Cadogan led from the front today took the fight to Kerry led the charge i felt he was outstanding ....O Driscolls outstanding as well ....and what scores by the great Donncha...one word on Colm O Neill that man is 26 years old has missed 3 seasons with those 3 dreadfull injurys ....and look at the way he plays just sheer class ....would we have won more if he did not get injured ?

Cork in the driving seat now with that win today, performances so far this year are very promising and all looking good for the championship, they will be the force to beat this year once things start to heat up!

what part of Kerry are you from? ;)

Eoin Cadogen has finally found his best place. He was a revelation at midfield. His speed had him in for intercepts and he was taking the ball forward at pace. Where Cork I felt had Kerry was in the pace of the middle eight players.

Absolutely but they are playing in a different way this year , a way that may suit championship football more but along way to go yet

Joycey has done his cruciate. Horrible news. Really stuck at full now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

awful news for Joyce but the wording of the statement on the Cork GAA website is interesting,

"Further Update Monday 17:00. Following a scan today on his injured knee, it has been confirmed Christopher Joyce has damaged his cruciate ligament. He is scheduled to see an orthopaedic surgeon tomorrow and faces the possibility of surgery in the coming weeks. We wish Christopher well in his recovery."

might be grasping at straws but "damaged" rather than torn and "possibility of surgery" hopefully mean he's not out for the year yet.

Would agree let's hope it is the beginning of something nice but same happened last year in the league. Team looked balanced yesterday although Kerry without o' Donoghue and gooch lacked a real playmaker up top and once Cork got on top of the supply game was all over. Hope Cuthbert keeps it going and O'neill stays fit as he is class

Let's hope for the best and he does not require surgery, I would assume Stephen mac would slot in for the moment what with calahane being out as well.

As you say cork got on top of supply game but lets call it for what it was, a shambolic kerry defence. Cork were eager and hungry but I saw only glimpses of guile among scores. Will need a bit more to add to colm and hurley. I do think collins is suited to the roaming full forward roll. But a half forward line of o rourke and the two driscolls wont suffice, need more craft.

Only glimpses of guile among scores? That is very harsh. I thought there was lots of skillful and intelligent play amongst the forwards.
The midfield had some great kickpassing.
The counter attacks had double options as runners. The runners were arriving with precision. Not sure what more you could expect? 3 - 17 scored with most of it from play and some of them being spectacular scores.

Gutted for Christopher Joyce all the best in his recovery......No Killan O Connor, Kevin Flahive or Kieran Histon on the u21 football panel for tommorow night against Limerick in the Championship....Brian Coakley and Michael Desmond i feel could be there as well Desmond is on the extended panel alright ....half forward line i am not too sure if its that strong....still if fit you have Brian O Driscoll , Michael Hurley and Cian kiely to come in....best of luck lads against Limerick....

with Joyce out who will JBM pick to replace him. MacDonald is the obvious choice given that Calahane is also injured. So we could be looking at a championship full back line of O'Neill, MacDonald and O' Sullivan because Calahane wouldn't have gotten a run of games.

Gutted for Joyce, as he was really settling into the FB position. he added that bit of steel to the FB line and his injury could prove costly come championship.
Will JBM keep the same team ( MacDonald in for joyce) against Galway or will he mix it up a bit seeing we should be safe from relegation?

You're welcome zete............thanks to RedFM who did a great tweeting job. I have to admit that I was keeping a close watch on Jose the special one at Stamford Bridge and took Giles' advice before the match and backed the frogs. Dunphy of course got it wrong again.

Yes it's Kerry next week in Cork who will be out for our scalps big time after the senior result on Sunday. The animals are bleeding and a wounded animal is a dangerous adversary. We need Maguire back fully fit, as well as Brian O Driscoll starting. It seems Kevin Crowley got a black card early tonight and was replaced by Cian Kiely. Dan O Callaghan Clyda who was only on the extended panel published on Corkgaa website replaced mid fielder Murphy after 38 mins. I think Murphy was injured, but not sure of that. It appears that Andrew Murphy St Michaels started the game but he was replaced early by Kevin Davis Skibb who scored two points and made a difference. Harkin at No 12 scored 1-2 and his goal came at a vital time when Limerick were getting dangerously close.
We have a huge panel of good footballers but only a week to sort out the selection. Interesting times for sure in rebel land.

He didn't even make the extended panel either.
Wouldn't worry too much about mid field as Kelliher can do a job there even if he is slow and cumbersome. Expect Alan O Donovan to move from No 10 to No 8. He was impressive in the Sigerson when he came on as a sub and scored 1-1. Fine big strong man who can play a bit too.

I would not be sure about O Donovan at midfield ..looked strong and tough in the Sigerson alright ....you need out and out midfielders at this level not sure we have them without Maguire...

How did Andrew Murphy do at midfield the other night? Was glad to see him coming in, would have thought he'd have been starting along the half back line tbh but he's prone to injury which might have hampered his chances

Midfield was dominated by Limerick. Both Cork starters were off by the 37th minute.
