Cadogan is out for three weeks.

3 week break to league semis if we win on Sunday I think.

Cork are shockingly threadbare at the back. Has young Burke ever played at centreback in his life? V lightweight to contest under the dropping ball. If the footballers are gone early Eoin Cadogan will be straight into the hurling panel pronto.

Burke played centreback for the u-21s last year

Hearsay but both Limerick and Cork played Kilkenny and beat Kilkenny handy

This tells us nothing about Kilkenny as they were destroyd by Dublin 1st rd last year - regrouped ( with Kierans /CBS lads ) and came back to win All Ireland

only challenges but it implies Cork & Limerick even enough as presumably playing close enough to first 15 with championship in next 2 weeks

all to play for, and a back door for whoever loses with neith side meeting Tipp until munster final - tipp are favorites to take munster this year

I've no idea what Waterford or Clare have

Heard also Cork 21s beat Limerick in recent challenge but both teams missing starters

They played a sweeper in behind him in both games . He's a career cornerback. Cork have a shockingly limited defensive bench.

I see the losers of Cork/Limerick match play Waterford ( if Tipp are so sh1t hot) and there is a good chance of a repeat semi final with the loser of the first round game having the advantage. Crazy system.

Cork minors should be ok I'd say. The omens in terms of Cork teams progressing in Harty are good. A lot of work gone in and best available panel assembled. The trick will be getting the team balance right. Plenty of good forwards from what I can see. Not sure about midfield line up but should be all right. Full back line will be fine. I'm struggling a bit in terms of no 6. Nobody really nailing down the position as far as I can see.

Is the appeal of starting 3 brothers clouding judgement? Seriously?

Michael Collins played sweeper that day against Clare. He got three points from there during the final.

Looking forward to a double header tomorrow. On paper, the hurlers should do it but Mayo won't be easy.

Mayo blow hot and cold and we have been putting in good solid performances, expect us to win. Hurlers will surely win. Wexford haven't showed much so far but are capable of 1 big game, but I think that won't come till the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 571 ✭✭✭Figsy32

Footballers got away with one there. Showed a good amount of fight though so credit to them! Need another link man in the team desperately though.

Tough game but Hurleys goal at the death means another win have to be happy with that.

Great comeback by the hurlers, should not have been in that position but credit Wexford for their first half performance.

two games hugely affected by the wind. footballers ground kept going as they have been doing all through the league so far. Mayo acting the hardy boys and Cork stood up to it, great to see.

Hurlers must have got a bollocking at HT, much better second half. Worrying that WX were able to pick out free men almost at their ease, effort tracking men is something the wind doesn't influence. Daniel Kearney pick of the bunch again, Aiden Walsh came into it in the second half, caught 3 or 4 puc outs William Kearney went off with what looked like a serious injury, the last thing we need.

Keith Higgins took a ridiculous cheap shot on Brian Hurley after the 2nd goal.

The transition from defence to attack is still the main issue for the footballers I think (besides the lack of options at midfield). Paddy Kelly made a big difference when he came on.

The kick outs are going to cause us serious problems in championship. Mayo pushed up a forward press today and we had very little answer to it. O'Halloran isn't a particularly brilliant kicker and the lack of runs to give him options didn't help either.

Overall a pretty solid performance though. Particularly impressed by Dorman.

Regarding the hurlers, it was a strange type of performance and atmosphere, although the wind had an impact.

Better day out for Cahalane. Shane O'Neill was his usual impressive self.

Killian Burke did well without being spectacular. Cormac Murphy played the spare man role pretty well.

Kearney and Walsh really stepped it up in the 2nd half. Wexford couldn't live with them.

Rob O'Shea is playing himself into the championship 15 with his last few performances. Uses the ball really really well. Harnedy was excellent as usual. Lehane quiet although his battle with Chin was excellent.

Disappointed by the inside line with the exception of Horgan. There's nobody standing up to nail that no.14 Jersey unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭willietherock

Same old story for the Cork hurlers. None of the forwards, Harnedy aside, are strong enough to win possession consistently. Walsh and Kearney won midfield hands down. Cahalane and SO'N v good defensively. Halfback too light weight also. Wexford really bottled it. Need Aidan Walsh in the halfforward line but don't have anyone to cover midfield in his absence.

    1. Dalton (FON)
    2. Murphy (Sars)/ Cahalane (Bars)
    3. Cahill (Cloyne)/Griffin (Carrigaline)
    4. Smyth (Midleton)
    5. Hennessey ( Bars)/O’Keeffe (Nap)
    6. O’Leary (Valley Rvs)
    7. D O’Brien (Killeagh/Its’a)/Walsh (Bride Rvs)
    8. Kingston ( Douglas)
    9. Lowney (Clon)
    10. M Coleman (Blarney)
    11. O’Mahony (Newtown)
    12. Flynn (Erins Own)/Cormack (Rockies)
    13. Gunning (Nap)/ Fitzgibbon (Charleville)
    14. O’Halloran (Rockies)
    15. Looney (Aghada)

    1. Kenneally could yet play in goals with Dalton a serious option in the forward line. This was done at the U15 tournament a few years ago and worked well but Dalton is twice as good outfield now as he was back then.

    2. Murphy played well last year at the edge of the square for Sars in minor championship, Cahalane, strong and fast like his brother lack of hurling all year around at a high level and football may be a problem.

    3. If Cahill is gone Griffin will probably play full back, might be tempted to play Cashman there but imo when the ground is hard he will be caught for a turn of pace at this level.

    4. Smyth steady, strong can be used as a man marker on Hennessey/Nolan Tipp if we get to play them.

    5. Hennessey does all the simple things right. Walsh played senior with his club last year was not involved not sure if he is back in the running.

    6. O’Leary rock solid centre back, commands the centre, if in trouble with a very fast cf could be switched with Lowney.

    7. O’Brien has improved in the last six months Harty run has stood to him should nail down a wing back spot. O’Keeffe has gone back a bit not very dominating for AG but still worth a shout.

    8. Kingston could play anywhere from 5 to 15, Midfield has been a slight problem with this age group should do a good job allowing to ghost forward when in attack.
    9. Lowney only problem is he will be a dual and coming from Clon football will take priority but as good a hurler at this age as you will see.

    10. Coleman lighting fast with plenty of skill, may be unheard of but should be in contention, can also play midfield with a swap with Kingston.

    11. O’Mahony seems to be playing well, always scores and has a good hand.

    12. Flynn going well in training I hear, plenty of pace and can take a score from anywhere inside 60 yards. Cormack opted out of development squads the last few years I think, big strong ball winner, well capable of taking a score, pace may be a problem when the ground drys up will be interesting to see his displays with Roco in the coming weeks.

    13. Gunning pick of the 17s, has the potential to be a super corner forward, should make the step up. Fitzgibbon similar player to Gunning could very well be a toss-up between them, made a difference when introduced in county final last year, very accurate free taker within 60 yards.

    14. Halloran could be played at 10, with Cormack at 11 and Mahony at his best position at 14, very good player will be to the fore with Christians in there bit for glory , also a talented out half could lose him to rugby in the long run.

    15. Looney a surprise selection for some with last year’s minor panel but this lad has every skill in the book, plenty of pace if he becomes more direct when advancing on goal can be a serious threat.

Cashman could be used to upset a forward, with O’Leary from Castlelyons and Harrington who played all championship games for O’Neill last year also an option.
English good player will be there abouts but needs to insert more intensity into performances, watched O’Sullivan on Saturday for the second time was excellent will be in with a shout.
Don’t count out Billy Dunne has super potential seems to be hard to get it out but don’t be surprised if he wears no 14 in the first game. Also Beasung 17 (Russell Rvs) and Howard (Dromtarriff) could feature.
Don’t think I have left anyone out maybe one or two 17s if Manley and McCarthy were to return from the round ball they would be there also.
One of the strongest panels of minors in years should make Croker. Limerick have never beaten Cork at this age as far as I know, Tipp beat them in Forristal, 15 final and 16 semi-final with only a puck of a ball in all games, Kilkenny also strong at this age, What do you think TTM??

Cahill def outa contention aswell as Walsh Bride Rvs
    Griffin to start at no3
    Calahane/Hennessy at no2
Smyth at no4 with Lowney no5
Murphy (Sars) to start centre back, Chris O'Leary to mid, with Kevin Murphy (Killeagh)(17) Youghal Harty centre back possibly at no7
O’Halloran and Looney may not start which I am unsure about as I doubt there are 6 better forwards than both of them at this level in the county.
Cork should be beating Lim by 5 points + if they have any hope of winning the All Ireland, Tipp and Kk are no1 and no2 with Cork at no3
I know they have played a few challenge games against the big two but playing LAOIS a few weeks ago while Tipp nd KK belted the $h!t outa one another in Dr Morris park seems baffling to me!!!

i have no idea how you think Cahalane was good defensively. I thought it was very obvious that he was not at the level required for an inter county full back. If i was choosing i'd take Eoin Cadogan over Cahalane and send him back to the footballers.

a lot of valid concerns re the footballers also. kickouts struggled when Mayo played a forward press. tbf i cannot see why every team doesnt do this to their opponents as a keeper can only kick it so far anyway.

Paddy Kelly is a boost when he came on but I cant see Kevin O'Driscoll cutting it at half forward

griffin had a grate harty campnaigh, hardworking honest player and doesn't cough up many frees - he'd be my choice - cashman from blackrock an option too

Cahill had injuries this year i think and not involved too much

I'd say Limerick can't be bad. They have 6 starters from last Septembers AI final team. Not a bad foundation to be building this years team on. Cork by comparison have 1 starter from last year. Having said that Cork seem to have a decent panel. How they line up will be crucial and getting the centre back call right obviously very important.

I can neither confirm nor deny TTM is in a Cork County Board re-education camp run by Frank Murphy where he will come out wanting all players to play both codes, demand a recall to hurling for Cussen, hail Brian Cuthbert as a tactical genius, and all Cork defeats are just due to luck on the day and nothing to do with the Cork set-up or coaching!!! :pac: :D

In all seriousness though, I hope he posts here again as he is very knowledgeable with great insight and its all about different opinions on a forum.

Its early enough yet but does anyone have an update on all the injuries in the hurlers?

No JBM said on REDFM that his injury is not serious at all thankfully.

griffin had a grate harty campnaigh, hardworking honest player and doesn't cough up many frees - he'd be my choice - cashman from blackrock an option too

Cahill had injuries this year i think and not involved too much

Harty hurling inter county hurling worlds apart as in giving away frees best players need to do the dirty. Stuff

I think it was Diarmuid O'Sullivan (Cloyne!!!!)who said Harty hurling was more intense than county minor.
Apart from that, your comment above is just plain silly.

Harry cup hurling is more like exhibition hurling. Inter county minor is miles ahead of it.

I know they have played a few challenge games against the big two but playing LAOIS a few weeks ago while Tipp nd KK belted the $h!t outa one another in Dr Morris park seems baffling to me!!!

Any idea of the score in that challenge match Froggyno11? Laois u16's beat Cork last year by 5 points I think in a tough group containing Tipp and Kilkenny also, so the idea of a challenge match at minor this year isn't totally off the wall.

Strong football team and subs heading north for a stress free weekend.
They have another bonding exercise and hopefully McIvor will throw up his biggest blanket and make it well
nigh impossible to score other than from outfield.
I expect Dorman, Kelly, Collins, O Rourke and Collins to shoot for scores every chance they get as the inside forwards
would seem unlikely to get much space, if any.
All eyes will be on Omagh where Mickey Harte could well be in last chance saloon and Kerry will dance on his grave if
they can. I have a feeling that Mickey will pull one last trick over the mighty green & gold and send the statistics lads running for their calculators to see who joins Derry in Div.2.
