Probably arrested for disturbing the peace .

I didn't see what happened because it was in a tight corner and there was about 10-20 people surrounding the area where about three guards were. The mob were shouting at the Guards, and it appears the mob then pushed forward because the Guards were trying to hold steady. Something obviously happened because the crowd chanted 'Leave him go, leave him go' and a few mins later he was put into the back of a van and driven away.

The chap was the most vocal all evening.

The family have been removed from the house by the guards

The social services have called there many times apparently. They can't do anything because the kids are not being mistreated and are being clothed and fed.

I am hearing that the criminal gang chased someone down Manor st. at 4.30pm today with knives and bats and that is what formed the crowd shortly after and led to the breaking of the windows etc.

As for the social services not able to remove the children, it is illegal to use children in begging and this was reported and witnessed by the Guards on at least 1 occasion that I know of so is that not grounds to remove them?

I arrived shortly after and there was a good presence of Gardai. A Hurley was confiscated and there was about 5-6 people protesting. One of the alleged crime members was being spoken too by Gardai and both parties were talking to the Gardai. At the same time, a crowd was gathering in Millers Marsh Car Park as a protest was scheduled for today.

They broke the windows and doors, but didn't enter the house.

I've never seen the kids beg. That's what's against the law. Begging isn't a crime in Ireland either, if I am not mistaken it's only a crime in certain locations like outside ATMs. I've seen people moved on for begging outside ATMs.

It is against the law to use children in any way to assist begging, they do not have to actually be the ones begging.

    http:/www.irishstatutebook.ie/2001/en/act/pub/0024/sec0247.html

247.—(1) A person is guilty of an offence if he or she causes or procures a child or, having the custody, charge or care of a child, allows the child to be in any street or public place, or to make house to house visits, for the purpose of begging or receiving alms or of inducing the giving of alms (whether or not there is any pretence of singing, playing, performing, offering anything for sale or otherwise).

The Guards have now allegedly moved the criminal gang to Pebble Beach in Tramore also

I'd interpret that different to you.

    See here;
    http://www.nascireland.org/campaign-for-change/racism/ethnic-profiling/pq-public-order-offences-criminal-justice-act-public-order-2011/
In addition to these provisions, Section 247 of the Children Act, 2001 provides for an offence of causing, procuring or allowing children to beg,

The child is just sitting there while begging takes place. If the child was begging, then I would imagine the crime would be committed.

Thing with all of this is that it's an innocent man who has to bare the brunt of it. The damage caused will have no effect other than a man who privately owns the building will have to fork out for the cost of fixing the damage. The mob didn't think about that. It's always the innocent who end up hurt in these situations.

Am I a **** for thinking its his own fault for renting to them in the first place and ignoring pleas to evict them before now? (I heard a rumour they were being evicted, no idea if true)

    By who?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,001 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

He didn't want them in there, but there are procedures that need to be followed to evict someone, and his heart was broken with them. There is more information about it but it's not public knowledge so I can't elaborate, but I guarantee this is not his fault. Yes, the families in there may be involved in crime, intimidation and harrassment, but do you think the landlord was exempt that?

People are jumping to conclusions with regards to the landlord and they are incorrect. As I said, an innocent man is baring the brunt of this mob, and it will have no effect on the families involved. They'll be rehoused somewhere else, but Shur out of sight, out of mind yeah? Mob mentality doesn't work.

How does someone rent a house to a group like this and not know?

Do they not see them at the start to get deposits and that?

The only thing more annoying than racism is the politically correct keyboard warriors who think everyone is a racist.

The fact is, there is a crime gang operating in the city under the protection of people's fears of being called racist.

One girl I work with was always defending them, saying its just just a small monority etc- then they stole her new iphone. She's a changed woman now

I was just like that woman, I was violently(!) anti-racism of any kind, infact I was the most anti anti-Romanian person I know to the point where I'm pretty sure I was the one keeping that Romani rose selling woman in business for a period of time. Then it happened, I was walking home with my new 48 inch television in my hands, minding my own business when suddenly I was mugged, they grabbed my 49 inch television and ran (as much as it is possible to run with a 50 inch television in your hands). I knew these people were Romani gypsies, I also knew that to organise such a heist that all Romani gypsies must work together as part of a communal network of criminal masterminds. My attitude had changed dramatically, I was no longer the peace loving, tree hugging, Guardian reader that I was before. The attack left me scarred, physically and mentally, I'd reverted to a kind of primitive state that involved wearing tracksuits, saying "boi" far more than is necessary, growing a thin line of hair that extended around my entire jaw-line, getting a tattoo on my arm of my lacks name in Chinese, taking News of the World and Daily Mail articles deadly serious and taking it upon myself a kind of divine right to be the vigilante that this city so clearly needs. Yes, I'd become one of the mob. Only then , it happened. On the way home from one of our peaceful, "we hate Roma" meetings, one of my skinheaded, tracksuit wearing, Irish to the core brethren ambushed me and escaped with the second 51 inch television I'd bought to replace the previous one. The pure cunning of such a plot leaves me in no doubt that there is a network of Irish ltracksuit wearing, skinheaded, News of the World reading criminals operating out there, perhaps even under the guise of an anti Romani mob. Needless to say I'm now setting up an anti anti-Romani mob Facebook page and hope to have our first meeting at the back of Masons in a couple of days.

Haven't ventured near this entire thread or its ilk because, well..its not something I particularly wanted to get involved in.
As it happens however, I'm a citizen of the city and for the first time in weeks I feel safe. You can criticize this contribution if you like but the fact is, I still feel safe and if that's the price then I'll gladly pay with a virtual hammering from some keyboard warriors as it is infinitely better than the alternative.
I've a 20 yo daughter who hasn't been able to go from a to b recently without having to be escorted by myself or family members. I had to walk her to college last week because she is that terrified to step outside her own front door. A graduation night out was cut short as half the group no longer felt safe enough to be out on a Friday night and simple things like going shopping became a chore. I didn't feel protected by our national police force, which has been a common sentiment amongst much of the population here anyway.
I think Waterford has lost a lot over the last few years. Its more than jobs and services, the lack of representation in government and the sheriff of Notingham tax system that has been put in place. I don't know who either of these groups of people are but seemingly the demand for some kind of solution to these problems has manifested itself and it wouldn't be wrong to say it has been a long time coming.

I live on this street and I have had bad dealings with these people. Now yes there was some scummy people in the mob but the mob also consisted of Polish, African, Indian as well as Irish, so people trying to bring 'race' into it need to take a hike, it was a march against criminals. Now I don't think it should be necessary for people to march on a house but I have had trouble walking down my street at 7 at night twice in two weeks by these people, it was literally not safe to walk from where I live near eden to centra in Johns Street without it being really dangerous.

There always seems to be a lot of do gooders on the internet and I hope these people move next to you and we will see how long your do gooding nature lasts for. I do feel bad for the kids of these people they really stand no chance unfortunately.

But nice to know I can walk to the shop to get some Milk tonight without fearing for my life so is that not a good thing

Someone is after setting up another facebook page and it seems a 2nd protest is planned for 21.30 tonight in manor street tonight, prob best to avoid going anywhere near that area tonight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 772 ✭✭✭the dark phantom

Isn't it funny how the Dutch police and government bodies know how to treat troublesome Roma but the Irish police and government bodies ignore them thus creating a situation in which it becomes necessary for the people to form a lynch mob...Official Ireland never learns. Far too ignorant and stupid to care either...Fair play to those protesters...

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/three-roma-families-evacuated-from-home-as-200strong-mob-protests-outside-30694388.html

Numbers differ a bit from Damien Tiernan.

Also going by that article mean there was three families living in the house? are were more families from different locations moved.

Also who hired the solicitor from Dublin?
