Just imagine if someone who started one of the "I'm thinking of moving to Waterford, what's it like as a place" threads sees this stuff; they'd run a mile. Makes the city sound like a vile little hotbed of nasty prejudice and right wing nutjobs.

A protest against a criminal gang sounds worse than a criminal gang beating someone up and robbing them?

In fairness Waterford is actually years behind. Other cities have generally done the same thing going back decades.

At the end of the day it seems one meeting has cleaned up Manor Street. Wonder how long it will be before another Innocent Bystander or Musician gets chased down the street with Knives and smashed over the head with Bottles by a bunch of Romas who couldn't give a **** about Irish Laws.

Now that people know its all that works your gonna see it a lot more often.

Ah ya can't say racist stuff like that now;)

But you are 100% right. As usual it will take something major for the authorities to act. That chap (fortunately) wasn't it.

That pathetic display over weekend is not the answer, as someone on here said, there are Irish families here that have a lifetime of crime in this city and no groups are marching to their door. I hope the anti racisim group gets well attended on Wednesday.
On the radio they were talking about young mothers in their pyjamas with their young kids down there at 11 at night, shouts of burn them out, absolutely disgraceful, and more to the point completly moronic.

The anti racism group is a front for the socialist workers party, the main people who organised tomorrows protest are failed local election candidates.

What was your opinion on the labelling of all Irish as terrorists in certain parts of the UK a few decades back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,768 ✭✭✭✭tomwaterford

You dont really believe its the guards on the streets fault do you?

Just the other day a woman was killed by a gang of Travellers. Most where out on Bail. Thats not the guards fault.

I believe its the fault of senior gaurds who are failing to direct action against these roma and local criminals
these local criminals...esp one local family who are widely known to be involved in illegal money-lending...should be targeted in the run up to xmas....everyone knows who is behind vast majority of the money lending in the town....they are being drawn into an extended fued with a city councillor whose car was burnt out over summer

do you think that there illegal moneylending should be targeted to stop them taking advantage of people with no access to credit in the run up to xmas??

Oh I don't know, that maybe some Roma people have jobs and they are not all part of some "criminal gang". Something like that maybe.

Who were you referring to when you said "A protest against a criminal gang sounds worse than a criminal gang beating someone up and robbing them?"

  • Registered Users Posts: 683 ✭✭✭conditioned games

The core issue so far has been members of the public finally standing up to the Roma Criminals. Those on the opposite side want the behavior of the Roma to continue and so are trying their best to make race the central issue. I heard one such politician on Newstalk this morning. His name was Seamus Ryan from the Labour party who lost his seat this year.

Throughout his interview he never once mentioned the bad behavior of the Roma community in Waterford that has forced people to take action. He spent the whole interview trying to make it a race issue, looked for sympathy for stress the Roma must now be under and condemned people for wanting a safer community. People like Seamus Ryan don’t want to talk about the criminal activity these people are engaged in as it makes his quest to make this issue race related redundant when presented with the reality the public have to deal with.

The people, myself and others, are hassled around town by, that I see entering and exit that house, also the "alleged" perpetrators that enter and exit said house and constantly hang around town and John Roberts Square with others in the house.

When did I say anything about Roma or Roma as a people or make a generic statement about them?

That specific Roma family need to be deported. The crimes they have been commiting are absolutly sick. And before anyone starts, this is not a hate post about Roma people I am speaking of one specific Roma family that we are all aware of. Also can I ask how they get away with not having their children in school??

There are obviously major issues within the Roma community that do need to be addressed, but can you tell me one time where vigilante mobs, violence, burning people out of their homes, etc against an entire ethnicity led to any long term good in terms of relations between them and as a result, society as a whole?

And the other two houses? You guys were all completely sure that everyone in all three of those houses are part of a criminal gang?

And if a Roma person who does not have a part in anything of the sort were to walk by that evening, you reckon the mob would just let them pass by no bother, right?

    Consider me sceptical.

The fact he got bail is an absolute disgrace and an obvious failure of the legal system yet again.

Living next to them on the street I have to say that it wasn't a race issue, these people are a criminal gang. Some people are bringing up the point of what about the Irish criminal gangs well they aren't attacking innocent people off the street, as a whole the Irish criminal gangs although wrong can be avoided if you are not involved with that world.

I have no problem with any race of people, let me just say that first of all. The families leaving in Manor street who happen to be Romas have caused massive trouble and I have seen in first hand I live a few doors form them. They attempted to attack me twice before when I was just walking to the shop. These people are dangerous and I am scared to walk down my own street cause of them. Do I think mob rule is right? honestly I don't but I am happy it happened cause I genuinely feel that it was just a matter of time before I got attacked and hurt considering I got away luckily by running twice.

The reason I agree with the mob is because I went to the Guards and local politicians plenty of times and nothing was done. Basically fear for my safety was my concern.

    Who is "you guys"?

I'll consider you prone to making statements alleging I'm a racist.

Nice job avoiding the second question. By" you guys" I am referring to those who were in the mob and those who support them.

You should post up as many details as possible of the incidents. People need to know everything.

Absolutely 100% with your points made.

Its actually getting funny when people from Wexford and Dublin go on Facebook and try argue against people who live on the same street. Apparently there organising a bus from Dublin to come down and tell us the real truth.

Will they leave seats empty and bring them home with them? I dont think so.

It seems that these people who are doing the anti-racism really do not live anywhere near these Romas. I wonder would they be okay with this family moving next to them, pissing on the stuff their children are playing on, selling drugs to their kids, and attacking them when they go to the shop to buy some milk.

These people should be in jail not attacked but the guards make the arrests and they get suspended sentences our justice system is broke.

I wasn't there. To answer the second question I wasn't there so I couldn't answer what would happen if a Roma gypsy would have passed. Tbh I would've expected them to be let pass as the protesters were protesting attacking people.

Again you're making statements assuming you know what is going on and you can't even be bothered to read the discussion. If you had read the discussion you would have not embarrassed yourself with your accusations.

Are you just here for an argument or do you feel some great injustice has been done and decided to argue with the first statement you feel doesn't correspond to your own world view?

Please take the time to read the discussion, even if you disagree with people at least you might gather what posters are actually saying.

It worked in Limerick against criminals such as the Dundons and others when people finally had enough and stood up to them. The crime rate dropped considerably when the criminals were forced out and the same proactive approach could be done in Waterford.

The Roma community in Waterford is small but the problems they are creating is widespread in the city and has now come to a head. You seem keen to protect their behavior by trying to divert the problem to an ethnicity issue. Can you put forward solutions to deal with the criminal activity of the Roma community in Waterford or is the best you can do is try to make this a race issue.
