Hyundai Santa Fe Problems

The santa fe has got to be the worst built suv ever made.

Where to start! Firstly my jeep was a 2008 2.2 crdi manual

At 110k km the dual mass flywheel went. Took the clutch with it. Jeep just out of warrenty, hyundai wouldnt help a bit. €2000 repair

Next came the wheel bearings. All four went within 2 months of each other. My advice is change sll of them when first goes. So much for calling this yoke a 4x4

    Drive shaft bearing followed this.

1 year 11 months after first flywheel went, the second went. Also killed the clutch. Thanks to 2 year parts warrenty tho hyundai paid 😎

Next issue was jeep cutting out at random times. From idle to 120km/hr on motorway. Problem was crankshaft positioning sensor. Easy fix but tough to diagnose!

Around 200k km a noise develops in engine. Dealer cant hear it. I work it up somewhere else to find water pump gone. Timing belt and waterpump were changed 50k km before!

Thinking im sorted i notice oil spill around engine. No smoke or loss in power. No source of oil spill found. Suspected turbo but was ok. Booked it in for a diagnosis but unfortunatly never made it. Oil light came on. Engine full of oil tho. Meant pressure low. Towed to garage. Engine destroyed. 240k km

Jeep was worth 5k before this. Replacement engine cost is 3 grand for a refurbished one. Problem is because mist santa fe go yhe same way they are very hard to come by. Scrap value about 1500. Do the math

Never go near hyundai or kia. My advice if you own a santa fe and its moving is to sell it tomorrow.

Why do you need an SUV? Are you driving across vast desserts?

Irish roads and farmers lanes. Need enough height to not loose bottom but dont need a 3L diesel drinker

Have heard disaster stories of them too. Pathfinder is the jeep version.
