Girlfriend and I are looking for a 1 or 2 bed apartment in galway suburbs but cant get over the prices that are being asked.
We would prefer not to share with other people.
Have Galway Rental prices always been pricey?
Called into 4 or 5 agencies today in town but there was sweet feck all
Other than Galway advertiser and daft.ie, where should we be looking?

You are looking in the right places prices are high ... and they used to be higher.

General advice is to live near work as traffic can be bad.

What's your budget and what area are you going to be working in?

Galway has always been pricey for rent. But if you're clever about area there is better value to be had.

€700 approx I am working full time but missus is mature student and working part time.
Are landlords or agencies willing to bargain at all i wonder?

Granny flats go for around 400 but stand to be corrected.

I'd say Galway is easily the second highest place in the country to rent.

You should be able to get something near ballybrit for your budget, I'd say that side of the city is still open to negotiation on rents, they were when I last lived there.

Would you consider Doughiska? Here's a couple of 1-beds under 600

    Thanks everyone for your input
Im going to keep glued to daft.ie and the advertiser, have deposit at hand and references ready
Is one months rent and one months deposit upfront still the norm?

    Good luck with that one.

Since EA moved in to Galway, the working side of town (ie the east side) got ever more popular. Close to jobs, close to the motorway, great bus service (Doughiska).

I've not heard of any negotiation there for a while. Maybe there is down in bits of Ballybane ...

It was 4 years ago since I lived out that direction, so fair enough. Though the bus service being 'great' is relative, I suppose for Galway standards it's not bad.
