Changing light celing

Hi,

I recently bought a ceiling lamp that i wish to replace with my current one.

Looking at the bulb connection, it has 3 wires (2 blue, 1 red, does not seem to have earth)
There is only 1 switch

House is abut 10 years old

I understand blue are for neutral and red is for live

New bulb connector has only to slot L(ive) and N(eutral)

My assumption is i should put both blues in the N and the single red in L

Is my assumption incorrect?

that sounds right, but those colors(the red) wouldn't be expected in a 10 year old house


you would expect an earth wire at the fitting too

Ducker, you are probably correct. Lighting circuits can be very dangerous to work on - especially the neutral wires you referred to.

I suggest you switch off the incoming mains supply beforehand

I thought red was pretty common in new houses

This is a ceiling light for the service bathroom.

I have put both blues in the N and red in L and it seems it made the job

Just because it works doesn't mean its safe. If the new light has any metal parts then there should be an earth at it especially in a bathroom. Any house built in the last 10 years should have brown and blue cables. The older colours were black and red so not sure how you ended up with blue and red. Was the house originally wired and certified by an electrician?

you are right, i have checked again the cables and is 1 brown and 2 blue

Wonder why i am still missing the earth

House was built 10 years ago and i am sure this was certified by an electrician as it is part of an estate

was not here 10 years ago so i may not have a proof of that
