    Oh the irony!

Do you even know what irony means? it's ok if you don't, lots of people get it wrong. Asserting that things which are unfortunate or funny or tragic are "ironic" when, in fact, they are not.

    Oh the irony!
It's cool to pretend to be all misanthropic though. These folks who "don't like people" - I wonder might they ever consider that maybe the problem is themselves, seeing as others don't "dislike people" to the extent they do and seem to know far more nice people.

Irony is a person going on about how sh-t people are.
    Arrogance is too.
As is lack of self awareness.

Exactly, it's a teenage attempt to appear "edgy". These keyboard warriors turn into

    It's unoriginal and boring.

I actually never said that. Is there not enough in the world to get annoyed over without having to be annoyed over stuff you made up yourself. There's a word for that - oh I know - ironic.

I'm pretty much exactly the same here as I am offline. And I like me, a lot actually. I'm pretty sound. (my mod self is slightly separate to this of course :P).

I rarely bother arguing here on the internet because, quite frankly, I can't be arsed trying to make angry and aggressive strangers see my point of view. It doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. There is the odd time that something might mean a bit to me and I'll fight it, but once I feel my temperature rise even a just a little, I step away. I'm the same in RL, there are very few people who will see me lose my temper because I cannot be arsed. There aren't many things on the planet that are worth getting myself worked up for. I've been to hell and back in my life, so I'm lucky to have perspective, and unless it's extremely important to me then why would I bother my hole getting pissed off for it.

I try try try to live by the motto "Don't sweat the small stuff". It works.

But of course YOU'RE better than them. 99.99 - huh? Where do people pull this figure from? Oh wait, I know.

The lack of self/irony awareness from people who make statements like the above is hilarious.

I'm beginning to suspect I've found another one, time will tell.

The number is probably quite generous to be honest, I was just rounding it up to two decimal places.

I'm 37, I've worked in 9 different places, went to 2 schools and uni. I've done a little travelling too. I'm not terribly outgoing but even at that I've met quite a few people. I'd probably struggle to name 100 that I've ever actually truly liked in all that time. The fact that I've liked any puts it at less than 100%

Better than people? Yes, of course I'm better than some people at some things. If I wasn't then I'd be an idiot too.

    Yes. Yes, I do.

So do you agree that 99.9% of the world's population are morons?

Or do you think it's funny to say 99.9% of the world's population are morons?

All it is is arguing against a stupid, illogical comment - the thing that happens all the time on a discussion forum.

Take a few more chances and you may find people in general are more admirable than you like to think they are.

it appears to me that many boardsies are nothing like real-world people.

90% of people i meet in the real world seem kind, warm, and non-argumentative

whereas 50% of the online world seems hostile and looking for a fight

so i think a significant amount of onliners must lead a double life of hostility.

i'm not trying to demonize anyone. i've noticed myself that i am far more reactionary online than i would be in public.

so, AH, are you different online? and would you befriend your online self?

Oh yeah? And who the hell do you think you are? **** you and the horse you rode in on pal...

Seriously though, I'm not that bad in real life! :)

I remember when I started on boards and I was sure lots of people were a***hol*s for writing FYP all the time. I thought it mean F*** you pal. :D

Nobody claimed that 99% or whatever of the world's population are morons. Most people aren't misanthropes in the true sense of the word, and there's a fair distance between not having time for most people, and actually hating anyone, let alone everyone. Most people understand this difference, except the 1% that take everything literally and want to needle and pick a person apart to prove a point 99% of people don't actually care about.

I think you might understand better if I said that in my experience, the vast majority of people I've met, are people I wouldn't want to meet again, let alone spend any amount of time around them. They may see that as an issue I have, but because their opinion of me doesn't mean all that much to me anyway, their opinion of isn't going to bother me that much either.

I'm sure they're lovely and all, but I just don't particularly want to take the time to get to know them any better than their first impression. Most people are actually like that, they're just unwilling to acknowledge the fact when they see an opportunity to berate someone else in front of the 99% that really don't care all that much.

    It's unnecessary really.

No! Why are you insisting on mis-understanding the meaning of the word "ironic"?

Just because a statement is false and idiotic does not make it ironic. It makes it false and idiotic. Do you have some kind of weird dictionary that tells you "idiotic and false" and "ironic" are mutually exclusive?? That if it's not one it has to be the other?

I'm pretty much like my real self I think, except I get a bit more obsessed (read an*l) with things as I tend to come on here when Mr M is away, and I may be lonely or have a lot of thinking time on my hands.
I guess it makes a big difference too, the context of what's going on in a persons RL. You know, if you have to be patient and polite outside, you might indulge in bitchiness here for a bit of release.

It seems to me that you're determined to be insulted here. You haven't a notion who I am so you really shouldn't worry yourself about the fact that I dislike other people you also don't know. I find it very odd.

To me an idiot/moron is either someone plain stupid or someone who annoys me in some way. It could be how they look, act, drive, they could be lazy, there are many many things that annoy me about many many people.

It sucks that you've had negative experiences. Maybe the problem lay with you, the people you mixed with and/or how you socialised and not mankind itself.

Being more outgoing and amiable does not equal being a teenager, in fact it's the more mature approach.

I'm not the the least bit worked up or annoyed over it, just questioning your apparent misanthrophy. Hope you enjoy yourself a little more in the future!
