my understanding is that (pressure to one side) warmer air means a given mass of gas taking up a larger volume - so the warmer it is, the lower the mass of gas you're trying to push out of the way.

    That table didnt work great.

The higher the temp the less dense the air. If the air is dense it becomes like trying to pedal through trickle when going at high speeds. A lot more effort is required.

They should suck out all the air and have him cycle around in a vacuum. Problem solved.

I'm just wondering if he'll be able to keep touch when he hits the tricky downhill section.

So the current record is 52.937 by Alex Dowsett? (So Wiki says anyway!).

Caught the last few minutes of a 5live show on the Wiggins attempt and the general consensus was that he would do something like 54/54.5.

That seems like quite a big increase but they (I don't know who 'they' are) also said that it would be good but not unbeatable and others would probably attempt to break it fairly soon.

Am I right in thinking that the bets are that he will set a new record quite comfortably?

He's 1/6 to beat the record. Bet 6 get 7 back if he does it.

Wiggins recently set out to beat Dowsetts 10m TT record, was around 30 seconds off. Outdoors I know but any value in this? He seemed fairly confident he would be able to beat that record.....

    Like this bit:
Over 40 applications had been rejected by virtue of the fact that their times were too fast, but the organisers, City Road Club, could not reject that of Wiggins as he has not set a time over this distance in the last three years
Bit of Yorkshire logic there ....;)

Yes but according to my sources that would negatively affect his VO2 Max which could hinder his efforts.

Less than 20 minutes to go before Wiggo starts.

It's live on Sky 2 and Sky Sports 2, and the UCI YouTube channel as the lads linked above.

I asked Sean Kelly this morning (during a charity cycle) how did he think Wiggins will do. Like everyone else, he said that 'it'll be a case of by how much'.

Matt Stephens needs someone in the commentary box with him! Wiggens losing metres riding high on the track.

Yeah I'm surprised he's not holding tighter to the line.

    He must be very confident!

Commentary says he's 50 seconds inside Dowsett's time at 20 mins. That's about 500 meters.

Depends on cadence really, he seems to be holding it pretty high.

    I think Dowsett rode 55–13.
