I'm considering the Half Marathon this year - need to fill a gap in my calendar :D
Does anyone have a route map/profile for the Half? Most of the info is geared around the ultra routes. Also, what is the terrain like - trail, road, or a mix (i.e. do I bring my trail runners or road runners for this one)?
Are there showers available afterwards? No accommodation booked just yet, I'm half considering making the 2 1/2 hour drive up from Wicklow, nice to drive back clean and warm :p

    Hi,

This is the course (all events ar eon the same course) a road built in the forest, only the last stretch going to the finish is not tarmac.

I read on the website that the marathon starts at 12am. Is this a midnight marathon or should that read 12pm?

Noon is very late for a marathon. Is this optional since the ultra starts at 7am and half starts at 9am?

    http://www.forestmarathon.com/faq.html
    Event Start Times:

    7:00am 100km
    7:00am 50km
    12:00am Marathon
    9.00am Half Marathon

Howcome the marathon starts at midday (not midnight, typo for sure!), and tha half at 9am?? Is that another typo perhaps? I'd imagine the ultras to start 7am, full 9am and half 12pm...

I read the same in the FAQ. On the front page it says noon for the marathon :(. I was told that it started at 10am last year.

I'm signed up for the full. I have to be back in Dublin by 4pm for a family event I can't miss.

I suppose I'll try and switch to the half. It's really dissapointing. All that training.....
    Limited entries :
    - 200 places for the 100km - Start 7am
    - 200 places for the 50km - Start 7am
    - 300 for the Marathon - Start 12 Noon
    - 300 for the Half Marathon - Start 9am

This just doesn't make sense to me. Why start the full marathon 4 hours after the half?

Why not start the full at 9am and the half at 1pm when almost all have finished the marathon?

    Hi all,

I understand it does not make sense to some of you regarding the Noon start. But it does in term of logistic of the event.

The forest marathon is a small event with limited entries andparking space. if we start the marathon earlier as we did a few years ago we hand up with congestion on the course (5km loop) and also without enough parking space.

By running the 50 and 100km early and then the half at 9am when the Marathon start all half marathon runners will be gone which will free the loop but also the parking within the forest.

Our event is not made to be a mass population event, it aims to promote endurance and ultra running with an exclusive location, we don't want to grow it and loose that nice atmosphere and keep the forest clean.

It runs well that way after a few years of experimentation and last 2 years worked quite well that way. The other option would be to run it over 2 days.

I hope this clear up your queries

Hi all, I hope you are training well. People have been talking about the 12am/pm start and disagree when am and pm start or finish so I thought I googled it for the Craic :

    Interesting links here :

in any case I am french so using 24h clock as well !

    What do you think ?

In for the marathon, it's a race that's been on the todo list for a while. Many others from these parts heading to it?

I'll be doing it. Both dreading and looking forward to it at the same time :)

Getting busy here in the office...... but quite excited.

So many emails for people who wants to enter since last week. Just too late and hard to say no to people.

BBQ on Friday night at around 8pm in the forest park if anybody want to join. SMALL BBQ :-)

Brilliant race, lovely atmosphere, great location!

I learned the hard way why you shouldn't wear new runners on the day of a race :o
