    Hi guys,

Did anyone ever traveled with united to the USA?
If so can we bring both a stroller and car seat for free?
I have been reading conflicting information online (including on United websites), therefore want to check with you.

    Thanks!

We always gate checked our stroller, and never got charged for it. We just handed it over at the gate before boarding.

We never brought a car seat on transatlantic flights, but we were told that if we bought a seat for the baby, she would have to use a car seat in the seat. We never did that - we just held her, or kept her in a crib on the floor in front of us (bulkhead seats).

The only time we brought a car seat was on a trip to the USVI, and we were not charged for it. Again, we just handed it over at the gate and they were fine with that (American Airlines).

If you're going to be charged more than $50 or so for bringing the car seat, you might be better off just buying one here. Any Target, Walmart etc will have them fairly cheap.

If you're renting a car, the major rental companies will also rent you a car seat. Again, unless it's only for a few days, you'll be better off just buying one.

We always gate checked the stroller too. We did a huge amount of research before traveling with our daughter. The car seat option is a right pain. It just takes up too much space. We did the infant in lap the first time and then we thought me might book her own seat the second time, although it turned out that the flight was so empty (virgin LHR-ORD midweek) we practically had the whole cabin to ourselves. Glad we didn't book the seat! Cares harness could be an option for you. We bought one but never bother using it. Aer lingus never even heard of it so they wouldn't allow it and some other airline had to go and look in the manual to find that it was allowed before saying it was OK.
