From an email I got earlier.

    ...................

This concerns any driver who uses the hump-backed bridge coming from park road over the canal to Rhebogoue. Details of the permanent closure of the hump-backed bridge coming from the Corbally side are to be found here:

    http://www.limerick.ie/council/limerick-smarter-travel-route-park-bridge-and-park-road
The plan is to close the bridge for vehicle access from the Corbally side permanently and the deadline for objections/submissions to the council on this proposal is tomorrow. (Friday of the bank holiday weekend.)

Closure of the bridge will mean that anyone travelling by car from East Clare, Westbury Corbally etc out to UL, in to the city and/or out to Raheen will have to exit Corbally via either the new Abbey bridge or O' Dwyer bridge.

This will also effect anyone with sons or daughters in St Munchins college, Scoil Ide or St Marys secondary school in Corbally.

The survey that was conducted by ARUP for the council was done in 2013.- does it take into account potential increases in vehicle traffic with higher employment rates in the future.

    Some points perhaps:

When was the study conducted -at peak school/college times?- there is no detail available as to when the study was conducted. Report here: https://smartertravel.limerick.ie/sites/default/files/downloads/Transport%20Assessment%20Park%20Bridge%20Rhebogue.pdf of particular interest are the sentiments expressed in section 1.3 of the report.
Statistics for use of the bridge are not clearly identified or presented.
predictions of future traffic do not detail margins of error or if they were tested with increases in vehicular traffic.except quoting an averag national figure of 1.245% increase on secondary roads from 2014-2029.
When there was flooding earlier this year in Corbally the only bridge open out of Corbally was the humpbacked bridge.
If there was a set of pedestrian/cycleway lights installed on the bridge to allow cyclists/pedestrians to continue along the canal route I would have no objection to the route itself but closing the bridge permanently for those who have no other option but to drive in the mornings/evenings is a major issue. it will make traffic much worse in Corbally and have knock on effects on people coming from much further away too.

If people have any concerns/objections etc. they need to make them in writing/via email (planning@limerick.ie ) Reference number is: 14-8006, and needs to be quoted in correspondence. The planning office can be contacted on 061-407210.
