Very hard to warm to this so far Marcus who is quite Waring and is no Michel Roux!

I'm really starting to like Marcus, I like that he does the food that reminds him of his childhood and that he speaks about it with love, he is shaping up to be a good mentor. Could really do without the VT before all of his dishes though.

The Kris guy this week was an arrogant little so-and-so, really glad he didn't get through.
I know they said the arrogance was to be expected from a 22 yr old but there were other young chefs who were willing to take on advice and not argue with Marcus about wanting to be different, the classic combinations work for a reason and a manky base on a tart is not better than a crisp biscuit base.

I like Jonathon, he has a bit of personality.
Katherine is coming into her own too.
Ben was unlucky, came across as an enthusiastic young guy who would have benefited from the MC experience.

Scot's accent was bugging me too, slips into Geordie the odd time but very European at others. I think he bottled it with the fondant, was a shame.

Think it may be time for new critics, Tracey is ok and the guy with the glasses who arrived on his bike the other week but Jay Rayner and Charles Campion are pompous, self important pains. Laugh every time I see Charles' reinforced chair, I know that makes me evil but if my career was eating, I think I might get a bike like the other lad.

    HaHAAAA!

All the blurbs and trailers I saw, and I thought Jay Rayner's quote was "this is big, rich, serious cooking - with a touch of HETERO thrown in".

Was mightily intrigued as to what he might actually mean.

    Hedgerow :D:D:D

So funny HH, I thought exactly the same thing!...I had to put on the subtitles to figure it out!!....

Wasn't exactly surprised at the outcome this week, there is very little talent this year imo....

Only one washing the shellfish was a shocker tbh!!....

And do all four cook at the same time in the same kitchen, but number 1 gets to serve a hot meal to the critics and the rest are progressively colder?

Staggered starts, it would have to be.

I'm not sure HH, it was a bit mish mash for me!...

This young lad is barely out of the creche!...

A lot of them seem to be going for the Wow, Out There factor for meal one...... wonder how many of them will succeed and please Marcus and Monica (who look deeply suspicious of a few of them!)

Dunno about this flower-eating malarkey - they all seem to be at it these days, wouldn't fancy eating a pansy with me dessert myself.....

In all my Christmasses on this earth, I have never, ever figured out what bread sauce is about.

Poor young fella looked fit to cry just there.....
