Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

why ignore your own question then.

Ronaldo was better than costa regardless what was won. Why would atletico winning a game he didnt play in matter

Because I always give more credence to the best player at the best team. If you lead a team to some great achievement then you should be elevated higher than someone who just played well but didn't win anything.

I understand that's not specifically what the award is supposed to be but so many people not naming any Atletico players in the top 5-10 in a year they were CL finalists and won La Liga seems a bit wrong to me. You could say it was more of a team effort but as much as I dislike him, Costa was fantastic last season and was the main man in such a great achievement and has hardly slowed this season.

It's debatable whether or not Costa was Atleti's best player last season.

In essence, you've nailed the futility of the award.
Football is a team game, no one player has ever beaten 11.

All this besides, if you want to say what one player's performances have been the best in the 12 month window for this year's award, then, its a shoo-in (or even a back heel in going by the example of the Spanish league's goal of the season as shown above.)

So, in the end, nobody could stop CR winning his third Ballon d'Or - fully deserved.
