i was looking everywhere for answers to this it was driving me crazy. videos on facebook and youtube buffering like mad but speed test was showing me steady 50/15mb u/d. that stats for nerds option on youtube was saying my actual bitrate was only 1-2mb. suppose it makes sense it been an international problem. wonder what they think they can do to ease the issue? theres only so much fibre crossing the waters eek.png this just seems to be an evening peek time issue is that correct??? between about 6pm to about 11pm?

    Hi Al,

As per that announcement, we have to put up this for another 2-3 weeks. Is any compensation going to provided for this poor service?

    Hi doctorg

I have not had official clarification on this however this will be unlikely as a full loss in service has not occurred , ultimately we should have eircoms official position on this when the issues are resolved.

    Thanks

By that logic we should pay 5% of our bills as a full loss of payment has not occurred to Eircom. You're still getting something right...

Oddly though, this slow YouTube server is routed through INEX.

I started having issues last night too with youtube and most of today, yet no issues watching hd netflix and an Apple TV movie in 1080p too, do those companies have data centres in Ireland.

AFAIK Netflix either peer directly with Eircom or use "Open Connect" appliances (basically streaming servers) in Eircom's own data centres.

Absolutely shocking today. A lot of sites taking ages to load and looks like I have to plan a couple of days in advance if I want to watch a downloaded movie on SKY.

Youtube was an absolute disaster last night. Totally unusable. It'd download the first few seconds super fast and then the downloading just plain stopped.

    Sorry to hear this derossi

We are hoping to have more news on a resolution time frame within the next week - as soon as I have anything I'll update this thread right away

How come youtube load in 1080p for the first 5 seconds  as soon as you open a link but then ****s on itself ? :/

That's probably a strategy aimed at loading webpages "quick enough" on a congested link, although I can't say for certain that its being employed in this case, or that something else isn't causing that effect.

The same thing is happening to me.
For the last week everything has went from super fast to a creeping crawl. :(

Tunnelbear seems to be holding up for upto 720p videos.

I sent an official complaint email to there customer care team, I have stated that I will no longer pay for my service until IT has been fixed. That was a couple of days ago and still haven't hrard back from them, also complained on the eircom forum stating the same, not one eircom mod has replied! I wish I never left upc! Last night speeds at 80m but couldn't even load the eircom forum page to complain, had to use my phone

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,754 ✭✭✭flyingsnail

Does anybody else notice that it seems to always happen at the same time, for me it always happens between 20:00 and 22:00 and is always fixed by the next morning.

It definitely happens in the evening for me, although I couldn't give a precise time. Videos just don't play or they load for a few seconds and then nothing happens.

It happens at those times because that when the highest number of users are online.

Eircom doesn't have the proper equipment to cater to everyone.

Not on Efibre, on ye olde DSL:

Dat aint right, yesterday was stable...and no...Ive not done anything to the house wiring....

And Im next door to the exchange.

Yeah OOKLA speed test's say I have around 50m speed but everything is still going slow.
They better sort this out soon because this is bloody outrageous.
Paying for high speed efibre broadband and getting diddly squat.

our office dsl connection (not e-fibre just regular adsl2+) went intermittent there from lunchtime couldnt access several of our supplier site (or amazon or google)  had to switch to our backup provider (through local wireless provider )  at least we have that can stop the complaints tbh we noticed some severe slowdowns in our speed since last week. just became unuseable today

Gone from bad to worse. Completely unusable at the moment. Can't access anything. Stuck on 3G. Very poor from Eircom. :-(

Yup, mine is gone too. Router looks connected fine but nothing will load. Tried changing to open dns and nothing either. Sad state of affairs. I'm in cork if any one else is having the same issues.

Thank god I'm not alone. I've had terrible issues for months. It suddenly fixed itself last week and I was getting full 8-9Meg a second downloading files. Now I'm back to square one. Buffering problems and so on. Evision tv seems to be ok and I'm on the 100meg line. Speedtest always comes back good
Has anyone's eVision been affected by this? Was thinking of signing up for it but now not so sure

Evision is delivered from Eircoms local network. Does not have an internet hop

I can barely stream YouTube videos at 720p, 1080p is out of the question. It's also taking me three hours to download a 217MB update for my PlayStation.

    Really poor service.
