:)This is a strange one but I ended a friendship yesterday that I should've ended a few years ago when everyone advised me to. I stuck around out of a mix of loyalty, guilt and cowardice but yesterday I had my fill. Everything revolved around her and her ridiculous dramas and she didn't give a flying took about me when it came to the crunch. She never asked me about me or my life with any genuine interest. I finally realised the extent of this when she didn't ask me once how my stepmother was during the whole time she was getting tests done on a tumour suspected to be cancer. I was extremely worried for a few months earlier this year but it went completely over her head and even when I pointed this out yesterday, she couldn't see the issue. This was one of many, many things but after yet another drama yesterday, I told her calmly that I wanted to end the friendship. I got up and walked away and felt like a massive weight was taken off my shoulders. I'm too old to put up with people that suck the life out of me and I've no patience for drama anymore and I'm proud I finally had the guts to do something that instinctively felt right. I'm angry that she failed to see my side but I feel really happy today and feel my life is full of possibilities and potential friendships with people who do care.

I am working on a project that has turned into a much bigger challenge than we originally thought. I have been so stressed, that I have not been sleeping and having headaches and borderline panic attacks frequently.

They just pushed the next release date out by 3 months so that I have time to do the due diligence on all of the hairy issues that have popped up. I am so relieved I am giddy.

Would have to agree with you on that, if I mention Shinedown, Alterbridge or Asking Alexandria and I get looked at like I'm crazy :D

I quite like Shinedown... But yeah I don't think I've come across anyone who knows who they are.. So yay..

On another note, finished off the gardening on a balcony and roof top garden that I was doing for a friend.. It feels great to have it done, it looks good, and the rest of the people in the building love it too ...and the odd compliment is nice eh?... Now to just enjoy this fantastic weather up on the roof :P

Been sick since Saturday, sent home from work on Sunday, doctors on Monday. Had a nasty dose of Strep Throat.
Today is the first day I've been able to swallow without it feeling like razor blades going down my throat. Today is also the first day I've been able to laugh properly and my fiancé is taking full advantage by being silly and hilarious. :P:D:o

Back to work tomorrow though. :(

The small things that customers do that really cheer me up in work.
A nice man who, as I handed me his latte, removed his glasses and took a look at my name badge to thank me by name. Seems like such a small gesture but it was something that made me like him instantly.
Or the kind elderly man who, seeing that the queue that was behind him was hectic and I was rushing around told me to keep calm and everything would be fine :) Seemed like such a sweet, genuine person and those words made me smile. I really wanted to thank to both of them for being so kind, but didn't want to be weird! Wish I had now! :o

Or the two elderly people who come in on a regular basis and always make me smile. One of them told me I was a lovely, kind person (and not bossy :p) and told me I should be a teacher because I've all the nice, genuine personality for it and that she would be disappointed if I didn't become one! :) That was nice to hear.
Or customers who understand sometimes when I'm under pressure and running around the place!:o
Sometimes people don't realise how the smallest gestures often make the biggest impact. :)

For the last two weeks I've been doing a job placement at a local centre for the arts, and one of the things I've been able to help out with is an art class for kids. I was there for one class a couple of weeks ago and it was so much fun I asked if I could be the class assistant for today's class as well, everyone said 'yes' so I was in there today too...

Anyway... one of the regular kids is a very talented girl (maybe 8 years old?) who just does not talk to people she does not know. She talks a little to the other kids but is otherwise silent. Anyway, today we were making imaginary maps to hide our pirate treasure, and as a group got really into talking about the various features of our maps that would prevent people finding our precious jewels and gold easily. This little girl was talking happily and easily to me about her map and how her various tricks worked and I was secretly delighted that she felt able to talk to me after only a couple of weeks acquaintance - I thought that she just needed a couple of weeks to warm up to a person and then she feels able to relax and talk.

It turns out that she has been attending classes for more than a year and I've been told that she has never talked so much before to any adult person in the centre, so I feel incredibly honoured and lucky to have been able to help her open up and talk about her work.

    :o

This news story from the U.S. make me sad and angry when I first heard about it, but it has turned into something really wonderful; the Girl Scouts of America received a $100,000 from a single donor last weekend and then a few days later got a note from said donor that actually they could only keep the money as long as none of it was used to help or support transgender girls. Since they are very committed to being as open and inclusive as possible, they returned the money and had to start looking elsewhere for support. The money was going to be used to fund trips to camp for girls who couldn't afford to otherwise.

On the back of this story, they started an indiegogo campaign to hopefully make up some of the lost money, the aim was to raise $100,000 in 30 days.

4 days in and they have already raised almost $250,000

Watching a dad play with his young daughter in the park. They managed to entice a squirrel over and the delight on the child's face as her dad fed it scraps of bread was just priceless.

Shooting the breeze with an old friend in Regents Park. Catching up on news, reminiscing, laughing at in-jokes and just general silliness. Realizing that some friends are more like family and there's no getting rid of them :)

Smelling the roses in the Rose Garden. How lucky I am to have the time and the proximity and the wisdom to know that it's these small things that count.

A work colleague staying in late to hang out with my on my overnight shift, as I start my last week of work before changing jobs.

London parks. Parks everywhere. Parks, parks, parks. Thank god for parks.

Yesterday I was at the shops and cinema, came home to find that my wallet had disappeared. I realised afterwards that there was a hole in my bag, I checked with the cinema and Gardai and shopping centre, no luck finding it. Pain in the arse especially since I'm going into hospital today for quite a while, so it wouldn't be easy to sort out replacement cards, etc. Also I actually had quite a bit of cash in it, and I never carry cash, and I'm broke right now.

Just had a builder call to the door. He's working at the house next door, and he found the wallet on the street outside. He's been calling in at all the houses to find a girl with a Sligo accent (because I've a Sligo address on the licence! Living in Dublin now), he didn't want to accidentally give the wallet to the wrong person. He said he came to work early today especially to try to catch whoever was in this house, because he got no answer yesterday. He gave the wallet back, cash and all intact. I actually tried to give him money - because it was such an honest thing to do, and has saved me SO much time and effort replacing all the cards - he wouldn't take the money, just asked that - if I was religious - that I'd say a prayer for him. (I'm not, but I'll make sure my mammy does!)

Faith in humanity - officially restored. :)

Just something small, I met a guy at a party about a month ago. And I like him and I don't know in what way. He was just easy to talk to. So I stepped out of my introvert shell and chatted to him whenever he's been online. And today he left me a message.
