Do you know any electricians? They'd be able to make one for you very easily. A length of cat 5, two rj45 plugs and a crimper to crimp them and bobs your uncle.

Techpart in Limerick are great, but surely there is a local network company that you could use? All you're looking for is x metres of cat 5 cable. Buying online adds delivery charges, but you can try http://www.cablemonkey.ie/21-cat5e-rj45-patch-leads

I asked does he know any, ie mates. They wouldn't charge him anything. If he was in Dublin and near me I'd make him one in 2 minutes for nothing.

Sigh! What part of €8.00+€5 delivered next day is a problem.BTW if it were 100 patchleads delivery anywhere in the country would still only be €5.

It's 30 euro for about 100m ( possibly even 300m). Glass ends are about ten cent each. A crimpervus a tener, 35 for a good one
If he was in Dublin I'd do it for free for him.

The electritian is doin it for me tomoro. He is going to cut a short ethernet cable in half and add in 15meter in between the 2 halfs , he is doing it this way as he doesnt have a crimp yoke. Would that be fine do ye think?

Is he charging ? A sparks should be able to run a cable tidy and out wall plates in. Then use a punch down tool

assuming he joins the cable properly and neatly it should do the job

bit strange for him to have the cable but not a crimp tool

perfectly safe and providing he does is correctly it will work just fine

Ive done splice and twist to cat5 cable before but only when really stuck.

Would you get much signal attenuation over a 20 m Cat 5e cable?

Also what are the advantages of Cat 6 cables?

Cat6 has a seperator between the pairs, less crosstalk.

    Thank's for that.

I was also wondering if using an Ethernet cable that's 20 metres plus long would cause a reduction of speed compared to the much closer to the wall socket?
