Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Renault Scenic HandBrake

    Hi,

i've just been from the garage with 06 Renault Scenic 1.5 DCI with handbrake trouble
Started getting "Check Handbrake" warnings a few months ago, like 1 every 2-3 weeks. Then became more frequent. Resetting it by locking doors and allowing 60 seconds to pass. Also found a reset code on internet and it was resetting fine. Anyway, it eventually stopped working last week and reset wouldn't work - so i took it to Renault garage.

So here's the thing. €700 to get a new handbrake was quoted. I didn't have that kind of money this week so i said i'll take the car back. Meet the mechanic and he tells me about the work they did, removed the assembly and tested the electronic parts and mechanical parts and it needs replacing end of story. BUT - i go out to the car and low and behold the handbrake has been fine since! (Only been a few days mind).

I've read some forums and such, it seems a few were recalled from that year some time ago. Fair enough. But how is it they cannot find the issue with it? Motor? PCB Electronics etc? Why does it need to be replaced? One minute they tell me its knackered and needs replacing ASAP next thing its working away and i am driving away.

I guess i wanna know am i being suckered somewhat or is it just a case that these things and needs replacing for 700?

    Thanks.

Had a similar problem with mine (2004) a while ago. Problem was brake caliper sticking, mechanic replaced spring and fixed ever since.
