Would be a big blow to his ego to have to come out and admit he doesn't have the final say after the big deal he made about not working under anyone.

If he does have the final say, he looks even worse, buying players then freezing them out of the squad.

Bit like the season he had at Villa before we bought him. Think he ended up with 7 league goals and a bunch of assists.

By the way you can't believe half the stuff a manager comes out with. Rodgers is hardly going to come out and say "I don't have full control of transfers". It would undermine his own position and make him look weak. Ultimately we don't know how they do it. I imagine there is a certain amount of horse trading involved. Give me this player that I like and I'll take that player that you like, etc, etc.

Still glad to see the back of him . He seems to be hot and cold . He was very cold for LFC !

This is ultimately true then of every manager ever. Is it therefore unfair to ever pass judgement on a managers ability in the transfer market?

Wether its Rodgers or the transfer committee making the signings it clearly isn't working. Every signing isn't going to be a hit but to be fair their record is poor.

Signing potential is all well and good when the deal and time is right. The fees we've payed on potential is crazy. For example Markovic went for less than half the fee we payed just the season before, thats the time to buy. Same as Can. I know Lovren was bought for now but he also went for less than half the fee we paid just the season before.

We've paid stupid money for average players and young players. And most important we didn't replace a goalscorer with a goalscorer. Thats all on Rodgers as he has final say.

So Carra thinks we to spend another £100m to get back in the title race.

Only way I see that happening is with a new manager.

    with new owners more like

no point spending 100 million if you are going to offer poor wages, players we need to improve us will command big fees (and good players ask for big wages).

if we have any competition whatsoever then we'll shirk any potential bidding war.

We spent a similar sum this summer and not one of them was a top player. they all fell quite comfortably into our wage structure, but if you want game changing players you need to be less restrictive.

It seems to be a whose who of rejection in the last few years.

Excuses around our wage bill & transfer spend are yet more ridiculous fallacy.

We're amongst the highest transfer spends in Europe & near the top in England for wages too.

Our problem is not with the resources available, it's with how it's being spent.

Oh boy that rumoured team for tomorrow doesn't inspire confidence

    Jones
    Skrtel-Lovren-Johnson( centre back lol)
    Moreno-Allen-hendo-lallana-gerrard
    Coutinho-sterling

    Hopefully bull****

The best way of going about anything is to stick a shed load of incentives into the contracts so players actually put effort in .

    lol

If that really is the team.

Brendan Rodgers is staking his job on them play that team and lose he will be sacked Monday.

I really really can't see him playing that team though.

We are always up there with the bigger spenders, always have been in recent decades.

I dont see the point in spending money and not playing them though. That's where my gripe is.

Find a place for Can, Moreno and Lallala.

Ballotelli will come back in and tbh he needs to up his game. A goal tomorrow would be a good way to start

The best way of going about anything is to stick a shed load of incentives into the contracts so players actually put effort in .

top quality players dont sign these contracts, they sign for the likes of Chelsea or Real Madrid where they are guaranteed to get paid top dollar and also guaranteed to be playing top level football every year.

Incentives sound like a common sense approach but the kicker is players need to be really keen to come here in order for such a deal to appeal to them. And we are not really a big fish in the scheme of things these days.

Take this Sterling nonsense during the week. A top club would have him signed to a deal paying the lad top wages for the next 5 years and it would be minor news, but no Liverpool flute about and low ball him (compared to what he would get elsewhere), this being a player who could potentially play for us for the next 15 years. Provided of course we remain competitive enough for someone of his talent.

    Thats where we are at.

Top clubs would not be banking on goals next from an 18-19 year old from Lille, they would be introducing him gradually giving him the best possible climate in order to exell.

We will flog him until he has nothing left from gameweek 1 next season, and we'd use him in January if we had the chance to.

    Its poor preparation.

Mr Alan, my previous post was not a defence of Rodgers, but it was also a show of criticism to the owners also who have in place a wage structure that will never see us be competitive in terms of signing top class players. Our only hope will be that nobody else is interested.

Spending 100million whilst shopping in a budget store is asking for mediocre recruitment.

Cant see it being 3 at the back with Johnson

The below is more likely if that is the team and anyway barring Lambert and Mignolet that would be our starting 11 anyway. Mario and Toure are out aren't they?

    Jones
    Johnson-Skrtel-Lovren-Moreno
    Gerrard
    Henderson-Allen
    Lallana
    Coutinho
    Sterling

Mignolet has been very poor, but I'd hate to see Jones start. The most shocking part of that rumored team is the lack of Lucas in the team.

Agreed if were going to take a punt on a player we should be taking it before their price gets ridiculously overinflated. Eg: If we signed Lovren from Lyon or Markovic from Belgrade then if all else failed we would have no problem recouping the money.

A league which is perfect for this type of deal which has proven time and time again to produce talented players is the Eredivisie. All the talk of Bony being signed for a price he is not worth annoys me when we were linked with him when he played for Vitesse Arnhem and scoring for fun. Why we dont target this sort of deal instead of paying stupid unnecessary money annoys me so much. Holland produces great players and its where we got the likes of Suarez and Kuyt on the rare occasion we did look to that market. Why cant we do that more often and try and take the odd player off Ajax or someone like that? Arek Milik is scoring goals for fun for them at the moment and impressing on the International stage, the lads a real talent and Ajax have proven time and time again that they are one of the very best in the business at developing young players ready to make the next step. Thats the sort of deal we should be target ing instead of our ridiculous current approach towards signing players with "potential" when we sign them for a ridiculous price after that window of opportunity has passed. ie: Southamptons two best players at the moment are Dusan Tadic and Pelle both eredivisie imports. If were targeting that sort of player we should be signing them before they get to Southampton

Ajax option to buy is fixed at 2.5 million euros. That could easily be gazumped and he'd still be brought in for a bargain

Still waiting to hear where the team was taken from?

As bad as Mig is, Jones is ridiculous. He should have been replaced in the summer but buying outfield players to sit on the bench took priority

This game tomorrow really is crucial for the pool I think, lose and we will be cut adrift form top 4 I think. Win and it could be the start of our season.
But I reckon it will be a draw which will still give us hope, but hope is a killer.
I hope I'm wrong but I really can't see Rogers turning this season around :(

Lose tomorrow and I dont think top 4 is gone.

However lose tomorrow coupled with a loss to Arsenal and it's probably fair to say it'll be incredibly hard.

Put it this way I'd take a win over Arsenal and lose tomorrow if I had to
    choose.

    Pretty much sums it up.
Just because you can't compete with Chelsea, City etc doesn't mean you still can't buy quality.
I think at times there's almost an acceptance of the poor transfer record simply because their isn't an oligarch bankrolling the club.

If your spending £5m, £25m or £55m its all about getting value for money.
Sadly Liverpool don't seem adept at this.

Where are the goals going to come from?
Can our goalkeeper catch a ball ?
Can we defend against RVP etc ?

I think we are shagged tomorrow. If we win it would be a huge shock.

This the least confident, or the most pessimistic, that I've been going into a game versus United.

Says a lot that they're not exactly lighting the league up, and the above is still valid.

Really? That's your tipping point? BR dropping a keeper who looks completely hopeless lately and devoid of confidence, it seems like you are already done with BR to me.
