    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/174774-rodgers-reflects-on-sturridge-setback?

"It happened in a session and it was quite innocuous. He did it when he just flicked the ball, it wasn't a shot or anything that looked serious.

"But obviously he felt the pain and then when the medical team told me the next day after the scan it was disappointing.

"Whether Daniel needs to see a specialist is something that the medical team are looking into.

"I think that's his ninth injury on that thigh from previous clubs and here so there is an issue there somewhere.

"The scan shows a slight tear just below where he had a previous injury."

With Sturridge set to miss further action, Rodgers is urging other players within the squad to step up and grasp any opportunities that may come their way.

"Now we just have to concentrate and focus on the players we do have," the manager added. "It's that simple - make the best of what we have available.

"At this moment in time it's about what is within the squad because that's the players we have available.

"It will present an opportunity to the guys who have maybe been on the sidelines for quite a while.

"We can't worry about what we had last season or what we have lost. We have to look at the players we have. We have an exciting period of games coming up.

"We want to ensure we go back to our basics and be really hard to beat and be strong and aggressive.

"We want to make an impact in front of goal. Now there's an opportunity for some players who didn't think they would get a chance."

I find it hilarious that after Borini was told go find another club hes now being tasked with saving our season.....

I know it's ony the Metro...

    WooHooooo

Glen Johnson accepts Roma transfer after rejecting new Liverpool contract.

The chances of Johnson staying with us are about 10%, I'd say.

Borini's not the answer either being honest, hard working et etc but not a goalscorer. BR wanted Lambert/Mario/Sturridge as his striking options.

I find it hilarious how he came to that conclusion.

Balotelli hasn't scored more than 18 goals in a season. His record season of 18 goals also included 4 peno's. Lambert i presume was bought as an impact player, coming off the bench and filling in during cup games etc During his time at Southampton he came on 8 times in the last 2 seasons, netting once. Sturridge of course on his day is fantastic. But he has been injured a lot and has missed 27 games since signing for us. Since the 12/13 season he has missed 38 games through injury or 147 days and now counting.

I hope he does it but it is highly improbable.

The fact that some fans seem to be putting genuine hope into this happening is a level of desperation that a Liverpool fan can only exhibit.

Simply not good enough that we find ourselves in this situation. I like BR and hope he turns it around but it is simply not good enough.

In my humble opinion, Borini, Lallana and Can have to start. They seem to be the few that can pressure the opposition.

I'd also start Kolo as he seems to communicate to other defenders and tries to push people out of the box. Unfortunately I cannot see it happening...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,739 ✭✭✭ASOT

Kolo is the saviour of our season, he should be played left wing though.

How much more proof is required that Mario cannot play on his own up front. I mean it has a 100% fail rate over 10 games ,its not suddenly going to come good.

    Manquillo-Skrtel-Toure-Moreno
    Can
Hendo -Allen (if fit Lallana if not )
    Sterling
    Mario -Boroni

Has to be tried ,we are at desperation stakes

In fairness to Balotelli he's not getting the service. He needs runners off him. Hopefully Gerrard, Sterling and Lallana would provide that with a solid base of Hendo and Can to hold the fort.
Balotelli has never struck up a forward partnership in any club he's been to - he's not about to start now.

Sturridge has already been out for 2 months what was he doing with these forwards for the last two months that suddenly they are about to get unexpected game time.

    Again WFT.

Why have they been on the sidelines for the last two months while Sturridge has been out injured?

WTF Has the manager been waiting for to give these players a chance other than being on the sidellines while we have been playing sh1t!

If borini decked off there'd have been 13m and the Mario money, someone else might have been bought. Borini staying was a problem, he was told in no uncertain terms he wasn't wanted.

First time I've unfollowed this thread. The ease at which fans on here have jumped on Rodgers back is just annoying me too much. All this "he's under massive pressure" "it's all his fault we're in this mess" rubbish is a joke. He almost led us to the league title last year. He deserves a lot more than a few months grace if the inevitable downturn in results from losing the 3rd best player in the world happened. He deserves more than a year too btw. He's a young manager, there will be times when the learning process is hard. As fans we're going to have to deal with it.

Some on here seem to think that we can click out fingers sign x y and z and everything would have been fine. It doesn't work that way, we are not the MASSIVE club some seem to think we are. All this "it's not good enough for Liverpool" muck is embarrassing. As if we have a bankroll the likes of city have or we're a club of the stature of real or barca. We're firmly in the 3rd tier of clubs in Europe at the moment. The way out of that for us is to buy players with potential to be top class. We can't compete with the wages for the top players so forget about them.

I think and hope any fans who think Rodgers should be feeling the pressure are very wrong. We have a fantastic young manager and I hope he's here for a long time.

You think we'd buy a 29M Striker? And who would it be?

Nah, I think it will still be Mario and another Cheap Punt.

Besides, with Sturridge being Made of Glass, we actually need at least 4 Strikers.

I want to go to Liverpool V West Ham on the 31st of January. First time going to a game and I'm bringing my dad who's a big Liverpool fan.

What are my options for getting to this game and sending the night. I've done a quick search and with Abbey Travel it's 300 each then and separately an extra 250 or so each for flights (at a normal time). This is too much so I thought I'd ask here and see what regular travellers over to the games do.

    Thanks

If you were to assemble a Liverpool squad of the most injury prone players, who would make the team?

Aquaman - defo in. He should be captain.

It worked a treat for 4 months as opposing teams sat off Gerrard and with lots of space he was able to dictate the play and use his passing range to spring counter attacks. It worked so well in fact that opposing teams are now man marking our dm to nullify our attacks and Gerrard is struggling as a result. Unfortunately rodgers hasn't adapted to this and our other mids aren't make use of the extra space afforded to them.

I agree with your analysis but ultimately It worked because Gerrard is a good player. But it's wasting what attributes made him a great player and totally stifling him. He's just doing a job for the team. I want Gerrard appearing at the edge of.the box to ****ing thump in a low drive!

He should play in the centre of the pitch at least. We have Leiva who is a much better DM. Can too. Even Allen could play that role as it's to be a metronome more than anything - it's not supposed to be for the hollywood passes.

Its sad to see such an illustrious career taper off with being shunted into another position to do a job and then have people get on his back for it.

    Again WFT.

Why have they been on the sidelines for the last two months while Sturridge has been out injured?

Because they are not very good.

Balotelli's game time was probably prioritised over them because he has more quality and ability and maybe in the hope he'll become very useful.

Well to be honest Ive always been a fan of Brendan since he came on but lately just lately there has been that seed of doubt developing in my mind mainly because of his transfer dealings, tactics, insistence on playing players who keep on underperforming game after game and finally is his continuous spoofing in the press as he is now starting to contradict himself.

Brendan made a comment in his first season and early last season, to judge him on what happens in his 3rd season in charge. So far it has gone horribly wrong and while we shouldnt make any knee jerk decisions just yet, he must be given time to put things right, at least till the end of the season and if it doesnt happen then he should go because lets face it, if he cant turn things around now then he never will as he had all the money in the world to spend last summer on Suarez' sale and could have bought much better players than what he has done instead of this insistence on buying overrated in-form Premier League players. He also has 1 more transfer window before the end of the season to help put things right and I suggest that he uses it to address the real needs in the squad ie: Holding midfield, A top striker who suits our style and will guarantee goals and one right sided Central defender.

I dont think BR will get money to spend in January. He got 100+ million in the summer. Not to get into net spend etc but he got enough to spend and brought in 2 strikers. I know we need a goalscorer but I dont think anyone should expect money to be available. BR prioritised other positions and that has come back to bite him. Time for him to get the best out of his squad, and being honest he should and can do a lot better than we have been doing.

I agree with all the above, tbh.

One point, though. I think there will be money there for a striker, if a suitable one is available but it will come out of next summers transfer funds.

I think this window will show a lot about FSGs thinking on the running of the club. We obviously need to start scoring goals but the options currently at the club aren't suitable.
Do the club back Rodgers and pick the player he wants?
Do the club back FSG and pick the player that fits the sell-on ethos currently dominating?
Do the club tell Rodgers 'You have had enough to spend, now sort it out!'

The sad thing about it is despite all the money we have spent not one of our players would make it into the Chelsea starting 11 that played us 2 weeks ago.

Post in the Liverpool tickets thread. Good chance someone will sort you out. You'll pay face value and avoid paying the ludicrous fees travel agents charge people.

If you get sorted then book flights and accommodation separate. Much cheaper option

Jesus, I went through the 1-11 in the hopes of proving you wrong but the only position I can find that would be even close is Sterling (and to make it close I don't put him Vs Hazard!)

I appreciate your allegiance and loyalty.

However, we didn't just lose a few games or bow out of the title race.

We have had our worst start to the league in years and are almost on the verge of wasting a reasonably handy CL group.

There is merit to arguments that we are wasting a chance that was handed to us by the stars alligning last year with having the 2nd/3rd best player in the world at the club and having Daniel Sturridge injury-free for massive chunks of the season.

    For Palace I would go

    Mignolet
    Manquillo---Skrtel--Toure--Moreno
    Lucas

    Can
    Coutinho

    Sterling

    Balotelli---Borini

I would start Sakho but he is not fit. Gerrard will still start though.
Henderson is in poor form & with most likely not 100% I would have him on the bench.

What annoys me most about Rodgers is his reluctance to buy a proper DM, like Mascherano, Matic etc, who love the idea of defending tackling etc. Instead we have to rely of the likes of Henderson and Allen running around like blue ar$ed flies. Thats ok in the odd European game, but in the PL, its not possible for players to play at that temp for 90 mins twice a week.

We need to be able to defend better, soak up pressure and hit teams on the break, with the pace of Sterling Moreno etc, and the willing runners like Henderson and Allen. A proper DM would give us a lot more options

Do the club back FSG and pick the player that fits the sell-on ethos currently dominating?

What does that mean? FSG own the club, it's 100% theirs. How do you think "the club" would back FSG? FSG put their money down, they write the cheques, they decide how their money is spent and who spends it.

    Confused

First, probably obvious question: do you have match tickets? Or are you looking at buying a package (i.e. flights/tickets/hotels etc.)

    J.

    I have no tickets.
I'm open really to whatever's affordable. I'd prefer book separately hotel flights and tickets, but if I was directed to a package deal that was fair I'd go with that.

What annoys me most about Rodgers is his reluctance to buy a proper DM, like Mascherano, Matic etc
That annoys me as well. Just like the way he also refuses to sign an attacker like Ronaldo or a defender like Kompany.

Probably meant "Do FSG back Rodgers" but mixed it up along the way.

The sad thing about it is despite all the money we have spent not one of our players would make it into the Chelsea starting 11 that played us 2 weeks ago.

Yeah we should be just as good as Cheslea at picking up bargains... A ridic comparison. Chelsea spend more than we do even when we splash the cash.

Jesus, I went through the 1-11 in the hopes of proving you wrong but the only position I can find that would be even close is Sterling (and to make it close I don't put him Vs Hazard!)

What that also means is that last season, only Suarez and Sturridge would have made their team yet still managed to finish above them.

I think indeed I reckon I know that Crash Bang Wall was referring to the style, the nature of the player for the position - you know, fit for purpose.
