    Hi all,

We're renovating house we just purchased and it needs complete re-wire. We have received quote back from electrician of 8.5K. We will be looking for further quotes, but in the meantime I was wondering if the 8.5K seems reasonable for the following:

    32 double sockets
    4 appliance sockets
    Cooker outlet
Power on Island for Electric Hob
13 centre lights (one in master bedroom has 2 switches by bed)
7 smoke detectors ("EI type mains voltage with 9V battery back-up. All detectors will be interconnected")
    3 CO detectors
    1 heat detector
    Wiring for doorbell
    5 Cat6 points
    3 TV points
    2 extractor fans in bathrooms
2 mirror lights/shaver sockets in bathrooms
wiring for 2 electric showers, including priority switch
Garage - 2 centre lights and 4 double sockets
    3 external lights
Wiring for boiler, heating controls and Immersion
    Wiring for Alarm
    New submains electrical cable
All earth bonding including earth electrode
    Test and certify (ECSSA)

Chasing is 580 plus vat included in above
Wiring for alarm is 400 plus vat included in price above

House is being gutted. All carpets/laminates being removed and no furniture in house during work. Concrete floors downstairs and suspended timber floors upstairs.

All fittings are to be "basic white type"

    Thanks

Seems like a fair enough price to me!

Very reasonable......if the house is been rewired by a couple of Hollywood A Listers!!

If Tom Cruise. Robert De Niro or Al Pacino etc have quoted you that price (and are charging an appearance fee included the 8.5k rewire ) then fine......if not id get another few quotes as it seems a bit expensive to me. The wiring for alarm at 400 seems ridiculous as 100 meters of cable only costs under 20 quid.

    Best Of Luck.

Without seeing plans of the house it still sounds on the expensive side. Get another couple of quotes

there's a lot of alarms but even still 32 double sockets in the main building isn't a whole lot

i'd say you'll get it done well for 1.5 -2k cheaper no problem
