Hot Dog/Hot Food Cart Business

    Hi,

I've mulled over the idea of buying one of these hot dog carts with the view of running it a few days/nights a week. Heard a few stories about the kind of people who run the ones outside clubs in town etc being a bit shady and are effectively criminals so possibly would stick to proper events or private parties and functions.

Has anyone experience in this area or know anyone that has?

Just looking for advice on weather it would be a worthwhile investment.

    Cheers

Proper events / festivals will charge you highly for a place - that's why food is so expensive in festivals.

Also there are some companies that specialise in festivals and will do a deal to be exclusive supplier - they will then install burger van, o'briens sandwich van, ice cream van etc - depending on need. All of these are from the one operator.

Then there's the hygiene and food safety regime - quite strict for mobile catering, so it would have to be a regular thing to make it worth while.

I'd say you need to do a lot more work on where you will get business before investing - see if you can get at least 2/3 very regular events/locations first.

    Hi,

Cheers for the reply. I wouldn't be planning to go up against the big companies who as you say would have the ability to put deals in place for festivals and have a larger budget than I would.

It would be more of a side business to earn extra income. Ideally I would be able to get bookings from private parties or after weddings etc in the form of one or two a week.

Regarding after weddings - a lot of hotel venues wont allow hotdog carts/ice cream etc - their venue - their food only.
