    Hi all,

This event might be of interest to any engineers and/or cyclists in Galway...

    Tuesday, 4 November 2014
    Time(s) From 7:00 PM
Venue Room ENG-G047, Engineering building NUIG

    About the event

As Jean De Gribaldy (Sean Kelly’s Director Sportife for many years) famously said “Cycling is like boxing: It’s not a game. It’s a hard terrible, pitiless sport that demands great sacrifices. One plays football, tennis, hockey but one doesn’t play at cycling”. In this context, and in a way almost unique to sport, cycling remains a sport at the cutting edge of engineering and continuously pushing the boundaries of engineering design and material science. This talk discusses some of the key areas in which engineers contribute to the design of racing bicycles and also are to the forefront of sports performance monitoring.

    About the speaker..

    Dr Eoghan Clifford Chartered Engineer
Eoghan works in the areas of water, wastewater and transport engineering. In his academic role he is the academic director of the 1st year engineering programme at NUIG where he teaches in the areas of environmental engineering, engineering graphics and transport engineering. He has current national and EU funding in the areas of wastewater treatment and disinfection, water/energy interactions, IT and telemetry in the water and wastewater sector, environmental technology development and transport engineering including greenway design, carbon emissions and traffic analysis.
He has also competed nationally and internationally in road racing for over 12 years.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
