Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gas Fire Ventilation

I have in the house what appears to be a 2.5kW gas fire, and for ventilation we have a 100mm dia hole in the wall to the outside. The problem I have is this vent. It was poorly sited and faces the prevailing winds and I would like to change it. Despite being well insulated, the room is freezing most of the time and the central heating cannot warm it. Last year as an experiment I fully disconnected the fire and closed over the vent with a sheet of paper and the difference was immediate - the room warmed with the heating!

I'd like to put the gas back into action this winter, however this means the vent will need attention. I know the fire will need a certain minimum ventilation for both combustion and cooling which I have from the regulations IS 813:2014. I'm proposing to use a 120mm vent with a baffle inside and a cowl over the outside to help with the draughts. I will maintain the same opening as is currently present.

What I'm wondering is if this will have an effect on the draw in the chimney and will I need to get the flue retested for smoke and spillage?
