I've tried comparison sites but can't find an answer.

I am currently an Avant Card (formally MBNA) holder but don't know if I could do better with another supplier. I have no outstanding payments and pretty much use the card (x2) for online purchases and when traveling outside the EU. I also have an AIB visa/debit card, do I need both?

Also, are there any Irish credit card suppliers offering free car renal insurance either in Ireland or abroad or is that just a myth?

    Thanks.

There are better deals than the AvantCard offerings out there, but very few "perks" cards. KBC offer a derisory cash back scheme, AIB have a not-much-better offer on their Platinum card and Tesco offer Clubcard points via their card.

A credit card does have some substantial differences to your debit card. Credit cards are generally preferable when it comes to car rental etc. "Need" is a very personal valuation :)

AFAIK there are no card suppliers which offer car rental coverage here: it's generally more a US thing.

My Ulsterbank Platinum card pays back 0.5% on transactions. First €5,000 not counted and capped at €50k per annum, so most you can make on it is €225 per annum. But, it's better than a kick in the teeth.

I don't believe that card is open to new customers any more :/
