Tourist Visa for the us and canada

I'm flying into Toronto and travelling by land into the us.

Am I correct in saying I don't need to get a tourist visa for the US as I'll be travelling by land from Canada?

If that was the case there would be a flood of illegal immigrants crossing the border all day every day. Ok so do I need an esta or an 194? Are they the same?

The I94 is the old green form I'm pretty sure, that link says you fill it in at the crossing point. The link is from the customs and border protection authority so their word is absolute.

If I am in Canada or Mexico and want to drive to the U.S., do I need to apply for ESTA?


If you are a citizen of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), and you enter the U.S. by land from Mexico or Canada, you are only required to complete the paper I-94W form at the land border crossing.

Did that a while back. From what I remember I just filled in the application at the land border, waited around for an hour, paid the fee, got my stamp and piece of paper and off I took. Best of luck
