    Yep, I have a lot of time for Tim and he talks a lot of sense, but its borrowed thinking. This husbandry structure whilst not widespread in Ireland has been in widespread use in the USA and on Continental Europe for decades.

    Was talking to a local beekeeper who would have similar conditions to me, exposed to the Atlantic in Connemara. He thought this method would be risky for us, as it may lead to cold brood when inserting new boxes. Other areas of this region have better conditions notably around the Corrib.

    think he's overcomplicating it a bit, its a lot easier to use all deeps, doesn't really matter if they lay into third box or not and only one box to check for swarming, the langstroth versions called the farrar and is probably a good bit cheaper to run
