If you need police clearance for a visa to Australia what does that entail? Do you need it for when you are under 18 and do you need it if you lived say in Spain for a year as an underage person.

Only need a Certificate for any country that you lived in 12 months or more in the last 10 years, it's only for over 16s

Also you only need a Certificate for Proper visas like PR visa, you don't need them for 417 or 457 etc

Really, that's very unusual. I never was asked and I don't know anyone who was asked for a police cert for a 457.

Did you have any previously declared convictions that immigration were interested in?

They usually only ask in cases of migration or if you have lived overseas for more than a year since your granted your PR before applying for citizenship.

It's not even mentioned on the 457 checklist

Where it definitely is on a 189 checklist

All visas are proper, but some visas are more proper than others

I had a Public Order act from back in 2000.

After I sent off my Application they got back to me looking for more information, the Form 80 and Police Clearance.

Ok makes sense now, you must have already declared that and that's why they specifically asked.

Run of the mill 457 applicant and it's not required.

Thanks Mandrake 04 for clearing that up for me. Would you not need for some of the other visas if you are working with children or in the medical area?
