Depends entirely on the Department/Division/Section you're working in- from personal experience, as often as not, as an EO, you'll not have staff reporting to you.

I'm generalising but I would have to say from my experience of 17+ yrs in 3 diff Depts that CO''s reporting to EO''s in main stream CS is the norm..

Many thanks for the clarification regarding civil service grades. I just need to figure out now where I want to be.

Any idea what's going on with this post?

    https://www.publicjobs.ie/publicjobs/campaignAdvert/35814.htm?lang=en

Is it one post spread across five counties, or five posts with one in each county?

5 posts- one each for the five listed counties.

5 posts- one each for the five listed counties.

DOes it say this explicitly anywhere? I couldn't find any clarification in the information booklet or the application form.

Results for development are just out.. Check your messages on public jobs if you are in this competition.
I made this panel!!! Yay!! Now what to expect from the other, if I have a choice to make. :P

Excellent , congrats!! I just had interview for infrastructure today .... So just wondering what date your interview was so I have an idea how long it takes to get panel number (if I get placed at all)....? I'm thinking a month from interview to result ?

Sup08, are you Dublin or Regional?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Sup08

    Thanks.
I heard the interviews for infrastructure were ongoing until the 28th and results out mid September.
They say that there are vacancies for all those placed on the panel now.
So best of luck to all still ongoing.

Thanks. Well done!! I did both streams, no message yet. I'm destined for regional if successful..

Just received word. Placed on a panel, should be high enough to secure a position hopefully, regional. Happy Days

    Well done...
I've done both as well and would prefer infrastructure tbh, but I can't turn down develpemnt if I am placed in a job before the infrastructure results.

I only did infrastructure, but just as a matter of interest if you take dev' does that kill the infrastructure one on you ?

I'm not sure to be honest, I think I could take the infrastructure and the next person on the panel for dev will get appointed to my open position.

In your message does it say the following?
There are vacancies for all the candidates placed on the panel

No I'm regional and mine says: Should a vacancy arise in your area and should your place be reached, this Office will be in touch with you.

Well then it's just a waiting game until your order of merit is reached.
So it depends on how many jobs are created by current demand and future demands of each department.

The panels normally run for 2 years and given that there is an internal HEO competition running at the moment, more jobs maybe created through others getting further promotions in this competition.

Well done, I guess it depends on where you are on the panel and what's your first preference location

Thanks for your replies and well done to all who made the panel !

Quick question about interviews..... Are people interviewed in order of merit as per their application form or is it chronological.... Just wondering if interviewed near end is a bad sign?

  • Registered Users Posts: 169 ✭✭xECompanyx

I came 49th in shortlisting for Regional and was interviewed for Dev on 02.08 and infra/op on 11.08. Hope that helps..

Yes, it looks like people are interviewed in the order of merit based on their application.
As xECompanyx points out, I was interviewed on 18/07 and 20/07 for development and infrastructure respectively after been placed mid 30's in the shortlisting order of merit.

No, I was low 10's for interview shortlisting for Dublin development stream, did interview on 10th August, and got notification I made the panel on the 17th. Looks like that stream was reverse chronologically interviewed.
