Would it be just a random method when they select a candidate to a dept or location?

Or would the selection be based, after matching each candidate's skills with the job requirements at a dept /location?

From my experience working in the public sector they will select by order of merit and not by what skills match the job requirements.

HI, just as a matter of interest as I have never worked in the public sector but will be soon as I did well in the Dublin region would you be able to give a description of what your job is like. Do EO's in the ICT have CO's reporting to them, or are there CO's in ICT ?. For general day to day stuff do youo use a ticketing system or how would issues get reported ?.
    Hope you don't mind, thanks.

The public sector has a different grade/pay structure than the Civil Service. So i wouldn't know what responsibility's would be assigned to an EO, maybe someone on here already in the CS would know the answer or it could be department specific.

We use a web based helpdesk system where users log the call, these are routed to the correct person depending on the type of call. I assume most places would use the same kind of system??

I work in the network side of things we are kind of a jack of all trades section. ie. Network support, user support, server management, exchange, vmware, active directory. The only things we don't do is system development/support.

Everywhere is different and using different infrastructures. Hopefully where ever we end up proper training will be given!!

Probably depends on the department. I'm an EO ICT with no staff. Our departments ICT section has very few COs. Think historically they had more but seem to be moving away from that and for the most part, EO is the lowest grade.

I am a civil servant in an ICT area which is systems development, maintenance and enhancement of a financial management system (Oracle). I am an acting EO working with CO's but they report directly to the HEO. The COS are there for data entry purposes. There are no CO's in our separate IT unit. With my dept, CO'S report to EOS or equiv in the generalised processing areas, not ICT. I would agree that generally IT units fill at EO level up but it really depends on the Dept.

Send an email to public jobs. In reply, I was told that they would start contacting the candidates in the next couple of days.

Has anyone queried PAS regarding Region A Panel for Infrastructure? Have we any hope of getting a job on that panel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 185 ✭✭Murzo

This is what I was told when I contacted them last week.

Just off the phone with PAS regarding the Regional Infrastructure panel. Looks like it will be another while until there is any movement. They are waiting for ICT departments to come back with a list of vacancies. After this we will be contacted regarding our preferences. Patience is a virtue (apparently)

It's all gone very quiet! Anyone had any movement in Dublin? Patience is a virtue is right

    I called them again...
they said it will be next week at the earliest. Just as well most people here did well in the scoring system, if it takes this long for us I would hate to have a high number.

I've accepted a role elsewhere as the process is taking so long, my rank was within the top 10 so I'll be rejecting an offer if it does come in

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 IloveIT

I understand your frustration, it is very very slow

    hi, did PAS say that?

    thanks.

very slow process, considering we applied last april / may. There'll be a few more dropping off the panels too no doubt getting sick of waiting. I think once it goes to nov/dec we may as well forget about it until the new year also.

All very impatient guys but I understand peoples frustration. PAS are awaiting vacancies from DEPTS, that takes time. In saying that, the lists should have been sought at the early stages of this comp. Hindsight is a great thing.

Re PAS pulling up to 70 off merit panel??, I'd have my doubts. They were interviewing up to 70, maybe that's where the confusion lies..

Hi, I don't think impatience is the issue. The PAS mailed us 3 weeks ago to say we were successful and they would be in touch soon. The whole thing really shows the difference between the public and private sectors. in my current role in the private sector"soon" would probably mean before lunch time today.
