Hi, I don't think impatience is the issue. The PAS mailed us 3 weeks ago to say we were successful and they would be in touch soon. The whole thing really shows the difference between the public and private sectors. in my current role in the private sector"soon" would probably mean before lunch time today.

exactly you'd think they'd know how many people they were looking for
before doing the interviews. I for one am not impatient, I am in a job several years so I don't mind waiting even if it is next year before something comes up.

Sorry, not calling people impatient. I'm in the Civil Service and know from experience that these panels can be slow to move. Once kick started, they motor fairly quick. I would be surprised if they was no movement for high panelists before Christmas, then again, I don't work in the professional and technical section of PAS

Just receive a letter. I was in the 70's I think. Development specialist campaign- just got called for interview, one interview for both regional and Dublin. If yee who got interviewed and got panelled very high and haven't been allocated a job, then why oh why are they interviewing more?? If they haven't pulled from the already created panel of people who were successful at interview. I already started a new job, if I went for interview, how slow is slow, would it be months before I'd be offered a job if i was successful at interview, anyone else just got offered an interview it's next week so not much notice!!

Did you sit an interview already?

I got called as well for the Development specialist campaign. I have my interview done ages ago for the inf' and done well in Dublin. I did not expect to hear back on this one as my experience is all inf'. I doubt I will do the interview.
Did anyone hear anything else on the inf' ?

Sup08 no I didn't already do an interview! I said I just git called for interview, I have zero zero experience, I have just completed a masters in Information security and digital forscienics but I've just got a job in my original degree, went the recession jobs in my original field just disappeared so I went back and do a level 8 in computer science and then proceeded onto level 9 Masters. Any ways just started a new job in my original profession as things are moving again in construction. I'm going to do this interview, last few years was a hard slog, how do I prefer for this, I've a bare week to pull something out of the bag, any suggestions are welcomed, from those of you who already set the interview

  • Registered Users Posts: 72 ✭✭Noisin

Excuse the bad spelling meant how do I prepare for the interview?

The specification doesn't say you have to have experience. You have to have either the qualification or/and the experience.

I had a week too before my first interview (Dev) and had my second interview (inf) 2 days later. Very little time for 2 interviews.

Just know your application inside out and look up the competencies. My first interview was surprisingly casual but the second one I thought I blew. Scored fairly high on both with little preparation other than the above.

Thank you Suo08, good to know. I will concentrate on that. When I mean no experience I mean none, found the courses tough had one year done as an undergrad in computer science before I did the post grad level 8, only for that would have been lost on the level 8, hardest year of my life. Now I have the dilemma of taking a day off after starting a new job this Monday, how do I do that? I would consider taking this if offered, I'd computed to Dublin for sake of couple years and try transfer out. I commuted to college last couple years. Driving 1.5 hours at the minute to new job so I would strongly consider it. I took the job I'm getting no bites in ITnwithout experience, even graduate information security jobs which my masters is in, getting nothing, I'm just getting the blow off, and I find once your into Oct/Nov, if you don't have a job by then your talking about nothing until well after Christmas even until Fab/March things to be so slow on the trying to secure employment so said I'd jump aboard while I got the offer.

Yeah I just called for interview for this too but I have just accepted an ordinary executive officer role so I probably won't go for this interview now. If i knew exactly what I'd be doing maybe but my understanding is they can throw you in an IT role developing in a language you have never even used and dont go by your past experience??? or am I wrong?

This is the same thing I fear. You are proficient with a tool / software and the place you are assigned to, use something else. Is this a crazy way of selection of candidates by Public Jobs? They should match the candidate's CV with job requirement at the dept/office of appointment. Otherwise the candidate would not be able to perform at all and would end up failing the probation.

    Any suggestions to avoid this?

I wouldn't get hung up on what certs you have or your specialty. In my opinion they are picking people on there soft skills and ability to handle/manage projects, how you get on with people and varied experience.
If you feel you can't adapt to new software, New technologies or new roles then maybe this isn't for you.
In further news rumour has it people will start to hear next week.

No one is going to expect you to come in as an EO and start bashing out code in anything. That includes whatever language you think you are proficient in.

Most likely you will be brought in to assist in the operation of an existing application and will be given appropriate training and time when you join.

Don't get hung up on worrying about not being able to meet the probation. No one joins the civil service ICT to get rich you will use many applications over a civil service career so being adaptable and open is more important than being a specialist coming in.

Hi, it would be great if we did hear next week. Are you in the civil service ?, just wondering if its just a rumor or if you heard it internally.

So the panel is moving again. Anybody over the 100s getting called? Best of luck in the interviews.

Has anyone got any offer letter yet if they know where they're going or has anyone gone through the clearance stage? Haven't heard any more since my interview result.

Called today about the Dublin Infrastructure panel, still waiting to hear back from departments. But was told that 6 people have been taken off the panel ahead of me.

I thought there were jobs for everyone on the Dublin panel? Why are they waiting to hear back from departments?

Had my interview today, I must be part of the second batch of interviews, went ok, all cv based, wasn't asked any technical questions thank god, as I've no experience in IT whatsoever ever, they were just intrigued with my cv, and all questions lead to that, right up to my new qualifications in IT. Just recently completed masters in It, totally different background, so no IT related experience to date.

I called as well and got talking to a nice lady, she said that before they emailed us last month they had heard back from the dept's that they needed so many EO's. They then ran the campaign and went back to the dept's and all the dept's have revised down the number of EO's they need in Inf'.

Any indication on when top 10 would be called though?

I have turned down 2 decent jobs based on the promise in that email from Public Jobs regarding there being positions for everyone on the list. If they renege on that I will be upset, and that's putting it very mildly. Telling people that they will be in contact "shortly" and then having no contact for going on 4 weeks now is cruel and unusual punishment. Thanks to all who post in here, it's all that is keeping some of us going.

Has anyone heard anything either for dev or inf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Sup08

There are many people in the competition that don't post on boards and may have been assigned already.
Most panels last 2 years and if they are interviewing again already, then I'm sure they are just waiting to cross the t's and finalise contracts with the departments that have requested staff.

As they did state, all candidates placed on the panels will be appointed. Unfortunately, it's just a waiting game for everyone.

9 have been taken from the panel so far, they will need a lot for Brexit, the panel is there for 18 months, so sit tight.
