Could the Public Appointments really be so disorganised ?

. They told us they would have jobs "shortly" over 2 months ago.
. Then they said that they had to check with the departments to see how many people were needed.
. Now it looks like they are just selecting random people and not actually sticking to the numbered order.
. If you call them you are left with the feeling that you have annoyed them by calling.
It definitely shows that the public and private sectors are two different worlds. Don't get me wrong, I still want the job, but its amazing how inefficient they are at their work.

It sounds like they haven't enough people on the panel for the jobs in Cork. They did the same with the Heo general service panel, contacted people who hadn't picked Dublin for example and asked them if they would be interested anyway.

I did the second batch of interviews, got panelled fairly ok at 20 but there's 19 ahead of me so I'm guessing a good few more after me got interviewed and panelled and also those who didn't get panelled. If there not pulling many off the first batch from reading this forum there up at 19 or thereabouts, why did the bother doing more interviews and panelling more people. From my letter does not say if we got panelled that it meant an offer, whereas reading this forum that's what yee got told on the first batch of interviews, if you got panelled that you would receive an offer. Just wondering are we just a back up plan or are we even going to get an consideration. Any one else in the same boat as me p, did the second round of interviews.

All panels are created in surplus of the initial requirements and normally last for 2 years. If you are not called in the 2 years, you must reapply to be considered on the next panel.

Will be starting in December in Cork for a development job, and I was in the 20's for Regional, so quite pleased to hear this. I think it all depends on what the departments are looking for.

Well done! Best of luck in your new role.

I contacted Public Jobs via email and was told that they called till number 19 on Dublin Infrastructure panel.

At least you got an indication of where they are on the panel. I think they seem to be calling more from the development panel so my number could well be reached!

I was called today from Public Jobs. I was told to give the contact details of my manager in my current role for reference (Dublin Infra panel) . I was hoping that they would let me know where I would be posted before asking for reference from my current role. The problem is that if the location doesnt suit me my current role would be in danger as my manager would know I am trying for other jobs. Usually only references from past roles would be asked. I find this queit weird.

Any one asked for reference from the current role and in same situation as me?

I am in the upper 30's and am waiting for an appointment in the Waterford area for ICT Development. Does anyone know what the likelihood is for small cities like Waterford to recruit within the two year waiting period? I guess PAS only recruit for the Social Welfare, Garda, Revenue and Property Registration Authority in the city.

Just got an email asking if I would be interested in attending an interview for the ICT Development Specialist in Dublin. I was originally 120 on the panel. Can anyone who attended an interview give me an overview of what is asked? I'm getting nervous thinking about it already.

Yeh I got the email also. I was 120 on the panel to I think.

Just got promoted within my current department so won't be attending.

Remember it's not a technical interview. It's all about the processes etc.

Read the civil service renewal plan also.

Cool thanks. I have a level 8 computer science degree but I have 0 experience using it as I've been working as a CO for the last 2 years. I'm afraid I won't be able to answer their questions!

    STAR

    Situation
    Task
    Actions

Have yoo got the EO competency breakdown?

From my experience of going for the infrastructure specialist, I focused to much on the technical aspect of things rather than your typical EO competency of problem solving etc. Literally no tech questions asked.

The role will be no different to that of a normal EO.

Take it. Get your probation done then deal with getting a move.

For regional where are the jobs based, any jobs in Sligo, Longford, Mullingar or is it just Cork, Waterford, which seems to be mentioned the most. When I ring PAS they don't seem to know, I'm thinking of taking Dublin as i got offered it, anyone give me an insight into working for the civil service, the money is pretty crappy, 27k in Dublin is far too low, would need to use savings to get by on that, earning a lot more at the minute!! But I suppose trying to think of long term!! Any feedback or any one took it and really regretted it, any info greatly appreciated!!

only thing is noisin if you get into a smaller dept. promotions are starting to happen every 2-3 years at this stage. Get to HEO level and it'd be worth it.

Very hard to get HEO in IT in the civil service. There are people working as EO IT's for over ten years still waiting for the chance to get it. Thats why there are so many EO IT vacancies at the moment - the people that are in those jobs at the moment are leaving due to lack of career progression.
