Did anyone here apply for the heo ict.. Just wondering has anyone heard anything

Nothing yet. Few guys in my office have applied. I'd imagine standards will be low enough due the requirements vs wages offered. They were struggling badly to fill the EO ICT panel and have dropped requirements.

How and what requirements were dropped,

Previously they were looking for level 8 qualifications and experience i believe this has been dropped for level 6 and no experience. Know of one candidate that is straight from college into position without even finishing his exams.
They also have no aptitude tests whereas there was in previous competitions.

They have had to drop requirements bigtime as the money sucks and anybody coming from the private sector would laugh at what is being offered. Have a read through this thread for examples.

    EO ICT was level 6.
    HEO ICT was level 7

No it wasn't. The current one is. 2014's wasn't. Check the start date of this thread. It was set up for the previous competition.

Honestly, they had to drop requirements as wages didn't reflect what the were looking for and they couldn't get staff. The previous EO ICT competition had a higher requirement than the current HEO ICT

Is the ICT EO role a Mon - Fri job?

Also what are the opening hours?

I got calls from both Revenue and Public Jobs last Saturday!

Depends where you're working. It'll more than likely be flexitime. Start before 10 finish after 5. Would say PAS are swamped as there are a number of competitions on at the moment.

Have the recent HEO ICT booklet here and its Level 7 + 3years experience OR 5 years and a Level 6 or 2 professional certs.

Also note that currently serving civil or public servants may not be required to start on 1st point of scale .
As a current public servant , ive noticed these jobs almost always require you start on 1st point even when an existing Public Servant. This would be a deal breaker for me as im top of my grade , however , put me in the middle of the scale and im interested.

The rules are different for existing civil servants. This was clearly stated in the information booklet. Im a co on lsi 1 and I expect to hit around point 7 on the EO ICT scale. My start date is 06.02. Surely there are appointed co's out there who can confirm this.

For correctness, it was the same for the 2014 competition (Leaving Certificate (presumably Level 5) or acceptable equivalent) with one of a Level 6 ICT qualification, industry-certified qualification or at least 1 year ICT experience in at least 3 areas of ICT (these were listed by PAS).

Anyone hear of any more placings in the ict development role? Did my interview in December and got word that I'm 11th in order of merit(also noting only 2 vacancies at present), not sure what that means as I see posts on here saying that people who were 28th and 29th got placed. Would love to know from what number I'm 11th!:/

  • Registered Users Posts: 169 ✭✭xECompanyx

People who were placed 28th and 29th etc were the initial candidates placed within the top 60/70 from the shortlisting based on your application. These candidates were interviewed back in Aug/Sep 16. I would imagine you were the 2nd wave of interviews if interviewed in Dec. PAS were calling wave 2 for interview before any panalist from wave one was offered a job. Makes little sense..

Yeah i was in wave 1 in the early 40's but couldn't go to interview due to unforeseen circumstance. I was thinking if I'm 11th it might be from wave 1 positioning but I'd be certain I lost my place given I couldn't go originally! Would be fair like

11th on the panel will just be a matter of time. Sooner rather than later says you :-). Best of luck..

I would have expected it would be different for civil servants , but for Public servants who arent part of the common recruitment pool ?
Ive applied for jobs where going from public service to public service with same grading structure , they expected you to start on lowest point which isnt feasible for most.
Might just be a way of keeping the externals away.

Anyway at first glance , the HEO ICT seems to allow existing Pub Sec to avoid the bottom rung of the ladder which is a step in the right direction if they want good people.

If the job location offered doesnt suit (Dublin ICT Infra Support Panel), is there any option available to candidates to request another dept / location?

Has anyone who got interviewed in December heard anything back yet? I was placed 12th and was wondering if there has been an movement. This was for the ICT Development position in Dublin

panels from last July have not been placed yet, it will take at least 8 to 10 months. Sit tight, hopefully Brexit will not cause any delays. Keep ringing them. It will come, EO from 2014 competition are only being placed now.

I better start looking for a new job so, can't afford to wait 8-10 months.

Are you working in IT or the civil service currently cause 12th is a great position. Wonder what sort of background you'd need to get that high in the panel.

Likewise. Now word yet form here. I wouldn't think there are many vacancy's or an urgency to fill any.

I have got an offer to join one of the departments in Dublin from ICT Infra Support panel. I am in my 40s and is working in a private ICT company doing Desktop Support now.. I am a slow learner and doesnt know much about latest tools and technologies used. Regarding salary it is almost in the same range. Stress wise the current role is not at all busy. Worry about what would happen if not able to perform well. Since this is first time I have an offer from Civil Service, dont know about the support from collegues and managers.

I am bit confused whether to quit my current cosy role and join Civil Service. Seeks advice from anyone with similar profile.

Test link very similar profile to myself. I was very lucky that I contracted into a government dept and it was brilliant. I am Thick as a ditch but once you show an interest and are willing to put a bit of effort in, my experience has been they will help you. Buddy of mine has started and is 2 months in and he has nothing but praise for the lads he is working with. I am starting in infrastructure next week and I am really looking forward to it. My biggest problem was the money but I think all the benefits really will pay off in the long run. Go for it.

Similar question here myself, getting closer to being placed on the ICT development stream. I am a recent graduate and whilst a quick learner a bit concerned I'll be out of my depth. Anyone have any idea if you are mentored or sent for further training on unfamiliar languages etc. or are you just thrown in the deep end :/

It really depends what department you get. Where I am the new entrants are sent on training for 3 months and get training from the area they go into as well. Saying that you would be expected to be able to do the majority of the work once the first 6 months are over. Also you are on probation for the first year and can be let go at the end of that time if you are found to be unsuitable so you should give it a lot of thought if you are leaving a job to take it up. Maybe ring hr in the department you get offered and ask them what training they give if any.
