    Hi

I Don't know too much about the CS order of merit system.

I came 5th in the open stream in infrastructure.

2nd in my first pick regional (sligo)

1st in my second pick regional (leitrim)

no vacancies in either - was this a good result generally ? or am i high on the order of merit because of my location choices?

5th is a brilliant result on the open. If Dublin had been one of your picks, you would probably be guaranteed a job. Best of luck.

Unbelievable that you finished fifth in the national placing and there's still someone ahead of you for Sligo!
5th is a brilliant result by the way.
Hopefully something will come up in one of your 2 locations.

To those that have got placed is it just a interview or is there a presentation to do as well?? Also did they ask about the 4 Competencies or did they just focus on 2 like they did for eo

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭trigger26

There was no presentation, what 4 competencies are you referring to?

    Hi thelibertyboy,

Yes they are under pressure to get EO's in Dublin, the pay scale makes it impossible to survive there unless you are living at home. There is a high rate of new EO's leaving.

    John.

    Hello All,

May I ask, did anyone get placed for Limerick on the regional panel?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 517 ✭✭✭Dothehustle

Hi guys , I was panelled number 10 last September for ICT regional infrastructure but have heard very little from them.
There was one or two positions in cork and Kerry posted during the year but that was it.

Anybody any higher on the panel still waiting ?

I think the panel lasts a year and a half so probably have till next march until have to apply again,,

or maybe its the counties that I selected have no opportunities available.

Rethinking it , perhaps I should have put myself on the Dublin panel as well and then look for transfer ...

I think they do be open to answering if you phone call and ask what position they have gotten to on your panel.

  • Registered Users Posts: 185 ✭✭Murzo

What region did you select Flowerpot

I'm also on the regional panel placed 8th and heard very little. There must be no vacancies in my area!! Very disappointing when they qualified so many.

Top ten on regional panel too. Called pas a few weeks back in relation to panel and they didn't indicate there was anything coming up. Posts will be filled as they arise in the regions, same line for the past year. Was hoping current garda civilian recruitment may open up a few positions. Asked pas about this too and they reckoned it may require a new competition. If it does I'm not sure what the point of maintaining this panel is.

Can you give more details on this please?

Civilian recruitment for gardai was announced earlier this year, initially 140 positions to be appointed over summer months with a further 360 by year end. I've heard of people on pas admin panels being offered roles with the gardai so had hoped (perhaps naively) that some IT related positions may open up

Oh! I missed it. Thanks for the info though.

I was placed no 1 for my first area and number 4 for my second region. When i rang they told me their was no positions outside of Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭jaqian

How long after the interview do you find out the results?

  • Registered Users Posts: 162 ✭✭fergald

Hi, For me i think it was nearly two months, then another 2 months later i got my regional placement, very, very slow process.

I have recently started working as ICT Specialist (Infra Support) in Civil service. Now I have a job offer from a private company for the role of software tester. I am offered 10K more per year than I earn in my current civil service role.

But I am confused whether to quit my EO ICT role and go back and join private sector again.

    Any advice?

Depends how happy you are in the civil service, also do you prefer application support more so than infrastructure?

I'd be similar to you, I'm contracted to civil service but not sure I can hack the procurement part of it! I've worked in private sector and liked the cut and thrust of it, was a bit hairy a few years ago but there's seems to me that there's more life to it.

The security, pension and holidays that come with a good civil service job are attractive, especially with a young family. I suppose weighing up the pros and cons would be my advice for you and myself!
