Sunday times says utvirl not getting a positive response from ad agencies to them charging a premium over tv3 rates. Some are saying they may not be as successful as they think with the schedule they plan.

Also anyone with Satellite can still get ITV / UTV also, free.

STV and UTV are last holdouts of the ITV Borg, which breaks the original 1955 concept of UK Commercial TV to be regionally relevant. Too much of all UK TV (and Irish) is now American.

just saw the UTV Ireland HD on 116, even tho it's just a test image, the picture quality looks great. Now there will be no reason to watch TV3's blurvision anymore.

Just noticed UTV Ireland is also now testing on our Saorview/Freeview aerial.

UTV Ireland to launch on Sky

Sky has signed a long term agreement with UTV Ireland to make Ireland’s newest TV channel available on Sky’s platforms in Ireland.

From January 1st 2015, when UTV Ireland goes live on air, all Sky subscribers in Ireland will enjoy access to UTV’s exclusive content, including firm favourites Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The channel number for UTV Ireland will be Position 116 on Sky’s Electronic Programming Guide.

The agreement includes the provision of UTV Ireland content on a variety of Sky platforms, including tablets, smart phones and other digital devices– giving Sky customers ultimate control over how, when and where they enjoy the channel. UTV Ireland content will also be available to subscribers through Sky on Demand, including Catch Up TV. Sky HD customers will be able to view UTV Ireland in HD.

UTV Ireland will also be available on UPC channel 110 and eVision channel 108. The Saorview channel number for UTV Ireland will be allocated shortly.

So if RTE2HD is available without subscribing to the HD pack, why won't UTV Ireland HD be available?

They are both in the same channel pack etc??

So they don't think they'll be as successful as TV3 with TV3's schedule?

yes but it hints particurally at the filler birds of a feather stuff etc.,which will be up against good competition.

It was more to do with them charging a premium for ads over tv3 and being so late confirming schedules and carriage.

rte guide out today has utvirl listings for 1st and 2nd Jan. Quite underwhelming really. No news coverage on either day and some years old films. Also they are not showing benidorm which is one of itv's most popular programmes on the 2nd.(edit reason being is that endemol own tiger aspect the producers of bendidorm). TV3 listings also in it with 2 films on the friday night taking over the schedule.

Well starting on 1st Jan saves them the dilemma of St.Stephen's Day or Boxing Day for this year anyway.

Also, I notice that on the first full day listing, Jan 2, UTV NI listings are relegated to the squashed " regional variations" type listing at the bottom of the page. I presume all other magazines and newspaper guides will do this also. Perhaps UTV NI listings will disappear altogether in time, much the same way as ITV Wales listings have more or less been discontinued by most mags and newspapers.

ITV Wales listings were, according to a report in the Irish Times at the time, discontinued due to a decision of ITV plc to withdraw premission to print them. It conincided with the first time ITV3 (which has remained on after replacing Granada Plus) disappeared from UPC.

In fairness. They did the best they could!
