UTV will drop the 'Ireland' tag from its logo in 2016... the whole plan at the moment is to establish the separate Republic of Ireland service and to highlight this by 2016 the UTV Ireland tag will be dropped as the channel will simple become UTV and to continue as a separate channel to UTV Northern Ireland.

It seems a bit stupid to end up calling it utv. The U stands for Ulster. TV4 would be a better name.

    Isn't TV4 - TG4? :)

TV5? :D Wasn't that the french channel with dodgy porn back in the day haha.

TV5 Monde never showed porn that was German channel Sat 1. UTV no longer stands for Ulster. The U in UTV is just the generic letter U. A rebrand of the channel would be total stupidity the UTV brand is well known on both sides of
the boarder. It would have probably made better sense if they purchased TV3 Group as rumoured in 2013.

I fully agree with you, however unlike you, i have no way of watching UTV as i am with UPC.
I really want to get UTV back, the wife loved that station and the morning shows as well as saturday evening shows. i will be exploring possible ways of doing so, even considering a switch to sky from UPC.

Jayus I never even noticed UTV was not on the UPC!!

    Am I missing much I wonder?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Do you know that for a fact or are you speculating? IMHO it's reasonably likely, however.

Since when has St Stephen's Day become "Boxing Day" in Ireland?? :) ... just seen a promo on UTVI advertising a programme on the "Boxing Day Tsunami"

When the channel was first announced they stated that the trading name would just be UTV, but somewhere along the lines that changed for some reason. I wouldn't be surprised if it does eventually become just UTV but i don't think it will happen that quickly.

The event is known as that in more of the English speaking world than by any other name.

Nothing wrong with them keeping the channel called "UTV Ireland" in the long term... they just need to tone down the DOG and make it transparent

It may be no more than that may be the actual title of the programme. In any case ive warned several times now to keep politics out of this thread

I notice on their website tv guide they refer to the news as Regional and International News we must be a region now and not a Country

More referring to the Derry reference.

I do have to say the content on the channel so far is poor and I have pity for people on UPC I am glad I have Saorview & Freesat for UTV NI HD. For people that are not big on sport the Freesat option is a good one pvr etc. and of course UTV NI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,344 ✭✭✭✭starlit

Probably better late in evening if they have specials on or have corrie now that is moved from TV3. Do you have to ring to get the channel on saoirview as its not appeared only on the satellite with Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,103 ✭✭✭The Ayatolla

What kind of sport will be on UTV Ireland as opposed to the Freesat version ?

I have Freesat to avoid UTV Ni. I use a London Postcode.

Absolutely nothing so far ... all Irish sports rights are tied up by RTÉ, TV3, TG4, Setanta & Sky. It will take a few years for any sport to appear I would imagine (if they actually want to bid for rights)..

You have to remember though ITV/UTV are losing Champions League rights and apart from a few things on ITV will have next to nothing either across the UK.

The content on UTVI is poor but was never going to be much better. TV3s schedule next week has plenty of home produced programmes on it but I think RTE2 is the one to watch ratings wise as it is lacking home produced content big time

Rescan Saorview TV/Set Top Box and you will get UTVI on channel 6.

Thanks ya it said it be on that channel and to ring saorview. I never thought of that. I see if that work later and rescan think I did that for the 3e channel and rte 1+ channel.

The U no longer stands for anything. It's just UTV.

Any word on the ratings for last night?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,061 ✭✭✭irishfeen

    Top 10 - 01/01/2015

    1 RTE News: Nine O'clock - 602.3k - RTÉ
    2 RTE News: Six One - 559.4k - RTÉ
    3 EastEnders - 518.7k - RTÉ
    4 Reeling In The Years - 510.3k - RTÉ
    5 Fair City 446.5 - RTÉ
    6 Django Unchained - 434.5k - RTÉ
    7 Getaways - 321.3k - RTÉ
    8 MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - 306.7k - TV3
    9 BRENDAN GRACE: A NIGHT AT THE OPERA HOUSE - 309.1k - TV3
    10 EMMERDALE -223.1k - UTV IRELAND

UTVI will probably take that as a very good start, people at least taking not of where the channel is on the EPG.

Thanks, where did you get the ratings?

How did Emmerdale used to do on TV3?

I would expect that Emmerdale ratings on utvI would be better than TV3 as many UPC viewers would previously have watched it on utvNI.

How does one know what I am watching?
How does the TV create a feedback for someone to know how many viewers watched a tTV program?
I know the internet, catch-up can be monitored but Saorview or Sky?
