Actually people shouldn't get too excited as ITV will probably axe the show by September.

If it axed, it will have to be replaced. Otherwise, ITV would be in breach of the Channel 3 breakfast licence.

Ireland is seperate from the UK, is completely governed from Dublin (A cycnic may say its governed in Europe now) and dont use pounds. Why should we be treated the same as the other British territories?

I bet you'll be after the plug sockets next.

    No such thing!

They all use Pound Sterling - which is used by all regions of the UK and the UK's Crown dependencies. Despite each region of the UK using a varied version of the pound sterling they are all pegged to what the Bank of England states, also all pounds distrubted by the Bank of England can be used by all regions in the UK. Some problems can arise if you go to other regions of the UK where the Northern Ireland pound is unlikely to be accepted outside the UK.

England doesn't govern anyone. Not even itself.

England doesn't essentially govern anyone but its own citizens in the region/country called England...the Act of Union for example between England and Scotland. The Act of Union - the Scottish Parliament and the English Parliament united to form the Parliament of Great Britain, based in the Palace of Westminster in London. Despite efforts by the Scottish government to seek more autonomy in some areas... international relations are governed by the UK aka England because all roads lead to London so to speak.

I bet you'll be after the plug socket next.
Sockets - the standard European socket is sufficient enough for millions across Europe so I'm not sure as to why we (Ireland & the UK) could not adopt a similar socket tho wattage etc would have to be changed etc etc.

It is important to note we are Irish and European not British etc.

I don't know why people here in the RoI expect UTV (I) to produce programmes for this audience when they've hardly produced any for their "home" audience in NI since 1959! You get the local news and that's about it. Of their two studios in Belfast one is permanently mothballed. UTV and other small stations were setup to put a local gloss on ITV network output.........oh and collect the advertising revenue. Why did anyone think they would do anything different down here??

Well I think you could say that the addition of GMB is a contentious issue, regardless of where you stand on it and another UTVI PR disaster – putting all nationalism aside, UTVI have spectacularly misjudged the Irish market, and by adding this to their schedule, they show no signs of learning their lessons

UTVI have been fumbling about since the get-go, have no clear identity and have done the bare minimum required to make themselves relevant to an Irish audience – all the while eating into the market share of advertising revenue that RTE, TG4 and TV3 all fight for, and ultimately, use to produce programming. The end result it that the three channels that actually produce home-grown content, now have less money to do so, whilst UTVI invest their share in UK placeholders, designed to hold sway until the soaps come on

UTVI are a disaster so far

They had over a year to get the content right

News At 10 should be 30 minutes instead of 1 hour

Have news on at the weekends at 630pm

have their weekday evening news at 5pm

They need to have all the ITV content, buy it off TV3 or buy TV3

Have all the ITV content at the same time as UTVNI

No one is going to buy TV3 it's in a heap financially much of what it is doing now needed to be done when they had coro st and Emmers, TV3 management are as much to blame for the erosion of there market share as UTV Ireland

Indeed, they'd 17 years to build a brand, and therefore ensure viewer loyalty, but VB aside, it was still largely seen as "the channel with the soaps". As mentioned, Crossfire and the Lie were actually decent quizzes, but without any lead-in, they got lost in the ether. If they move current affairs forward to 9-10 p.m., it might boost ratings until the autumn revenue-earners kick in.

Piece from The Star a few days ago:
Ms Curtis also said the channel was the second most-watched TV channel in Ireland for 14 of its first 28 days of broadcasting between January 1 and January 28 at peak times.

    http://www.thestar.ie/star/utv-ireland-claims-it-has-doubled-its-audience-58399/

12 of those nights had Coronation Street, and then take 2 out of 4 of the Thursdays which had a double Emmerdale. Also note that she talks about the peak times. If this is the case, then they must be really struggling for viewers outside of 7-10 in the daytime and the weekends, which is bringing their overall share value down a lot.

    1 Coronation Street 409
    2 Coronation Street 391
    3 Coronation Street 351
    4 Coronation Street 338
    5 Coronation Street 331
    6 Emmerdale 287
    7 Emmerdale 266
    8 Emmerdale 266
    9 Emmerdale 252
    10 Emmerdale 249
    11 Emmerdale 238
    12 Rare Breed: A Farming Year 163
    13 Birds Of A Feather 113
    14 Doc Martin 112
    15 Surprise Surprise 102
    16 Midsomer Murders 93
    17 The Cruise Ship 89
    18 James Nesbitt's Ireland 81
    19 Cilla 63
20 Harry Hill's Stars In Their Eyes 56

UTV are really making the same mistakes TV3 made. Fair enough it is early days for the channel but largely speaking they have just increase their audience for Coro St and Emmers and not much else.

Hopefully TAM Ireland will also detail UTV's audience share for Jan along with UTV Ireland.

163k for Rare Breed is very good again - they won't be too concerned with those figure I would hazard a guess... the time to judge them on their entire schedule is well down the road yet. I think moving to 105 on sky would make a difference too... whether that is possible long term remains to be seen.

Thats a very good point - Sky viewers would have little or no reason to press 116 when they are use to watching UTV HD on other channels imho.

Only real reason is because its sandwiched between Coro St, like wise the repeat of James Nesbitt's Ireland

Interesting that UTV NI is still scoring so highly despite only not being on any EPG - the same as E4, which has prominent position on both Sky and UPC.

(Even more intesting is how high Sky Sports News rates - higher than any non-terrestrial except for Sky Sports 1)

plenty - PVRs have revolutionised how people watch tv. I imagine the vast majority of people with these devices would switch.

How funny is it that on the UTV-Ireland Saorview EPG we have "GMB" yet when I switch over to UTV on Freeview it's on the EPG as "Good Morning Britain"!

    UTV are a laugh! :-)
