They are governed by the 2009 Act. Section 77 relates to must carry obligations for cable and satellite providers and there are no must carry obligations for cable and satellite providers towards UTV Ireland or any other content contractor. (But see s130 as regards Saorview).

The interims are out for UTV and while there is still no news of a sale, we know that UTV Ireland made a £7.5m operating loss, and an "action plan" both in terms of programming and branding. Interesting they do say that "performance at UTV Ireland is heavily linked to the ITV network schedule" which hopefully means they acknowledge that missing so much network output is hurting the station.

Last night again no Stephen Fry programe on utvirl because it was a non ITV studios programme. Still obviously major difficulty for them in getting(or paying) for the rights to show them at the same time as ITV. Needless to say I watched it on utvhd and didn't watch utvirl.

It's step 1 of close down. What chance we'll get old ITV back on UPC?

UPC are closer now to TV3. Unlikely IMO.

Are they finishing the series off?

Whatever programmes were shown that's it . They were to record more in the autumn but that's it. They are looking at other projects with Kenny in run up to general election according to News Now app.

It may never be back in the form it was before. I'm not saying it won't be, if UTV Ireland does close down (not a certainty at this point) but it may be difficult to get it back on, particularly given Virgin Media's pending buyout of TV3.

Surprised Pat Kenny would even stay with the channel or be associated with it after the mess that's gone on. The channel has been on air for 9 months now - and only 5 episodes were broadcast, and he was used for the hour on launch night. This was supposed to be their marquee signing. Really don't understand why they haven't used him more.

Waiting for Election coverage is still a good while away to use him.

I thought the election campaign was already under way. €4.3 billion promised for road and rail.

Utv will be fine if they last into next year.

The xfactor comes on board which is a four month run along with I'm a celebrity, emmerdale, coronation st, Jonathan Ross and graham Norton..

The X Factor is on TV3, while UTVi moved Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross so much around the schedules last time - the viewers didn't know what night it was on - Sat?Sun?Mon?. Having Emmerdale and Corrie is their only saviour. I'm a Celeb lasts for 3 weeks, and they'll face a barren spell before and after that, unless ITV Studios has a huge hit on their hands coming.

Both TV3 and UTV face a barren spell from end of nov to new year. TV3 always have a significant drop in audience around that time.

New look UTV Ireland launching tommorrow. You would have to think they are missing the elephant in the room ... It's content that's killing them not the green look.

Not just content, schedule does not help either. They get plenty tuning in for the soaps - they just need to keep them tuned in.

The phrase 'papering over the cracks' comes to mind.

YOU TV is a brand of streaming receiver box isn't it? Oh no, that NOW TV, sorry - so generic its hard to spot one from another.

At one time, UTV ran a very short lived local version of ITV2 which was originally called TV You.

Nope. It launched as TV You and was renamed UTV2 after a few months..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,618 ✭✭✭channelsurfer2

Ya never know - a new logo will always gain extra viewers.( translation never mind about the awful lack of quality programming or that fact that RWC will not be on UTVIRL)....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,933 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Is this a joke? UTV Ireland is up for sale, right? So – why are they wasting money on a rebrand now? Fair enough, their original branding was awful… but is this really any better?

The new look seems to have taken an awful lot of, shall we say, "inspiration" from ITV.
