UTV NI had The Troubles I've Seen at 8:30 and Paul O'Grady after UTV Live Tonight.

AFAIK they will have it they only just started showing previous ITV drama, but simulcasting seems missing.

I haven’t mentioned the six-part Unforgotten before because any time I refer to a new UTV drama my email inbox fills up with confused viewers wondering why UTV Ireland isn’t showing it. (This week it instead screened Midwinter of the Spirit, seen weeks ago by UTV viewers.)

I posted to their Fb and Twitter page asking if they are showing Unforgotten but of course, they didn't reply!

Thankfully I have the real ITV
Their excuse for other shows was they had to show them from series one..so Irish viewers could catch up

Surely this will end as ITV eventually takes direct control of the station?

Was reading that this morning - going from bad to worse for UTV.

Surely if speculation arising from the announcement of the sale to ITV has increased losses at UTVI, then it is in ITV's interest to counter this by announcing its own plans regarding the future of UTVI to stem these losses. For example, they could confirm the plans they have for 2016-2017.

Would it be easier to shut up shop, sell off the rights of the ITV Studios shows to the highest bidder out of RTE, TV3, Virgin Media etc, and put it down to a mistake.

It is bizzare that advertisers are using bad press against UTV Ireland but in reality they've held on to a steady audience since Jan, with TV3 only really improving with RWC.

They have failed to admit their mistakes
    1. Over reliance on ITV studio programming
    2. A new news room separate to UTV Regional Radio news
    3. Little in terms of sport no matter how much they insist that rights were not for sale in 2015, they'd bought ITV programmes in 2013
    4. Lack of simulcasts for big dramas and entertainment shows and use of English lifestyle programmes
    5. No U.S. Programmes/film
    6. News at 5:30/6:30 over 8pm -> insight had 115,000 viewers!
    7. Plush new offices and studios
    8. The name and branding... Though less of an issue
    9. Lack of use of archive ITV programmes which they hold the rights to, such as prime suspect and cracker

    Can't think of number 10

RTÉ won't bid on ITV programmes that's why TV3 played hard ball in 2013.

ITV have already said what their plans are for UTV Ireland. It will improve on its current successes by adding more from the ITV portfolio of programming. So they aren't going to close it and are instead going to make it more in-line with ITV/UTV NI over time.

Which was always the UTV Ireland plan. They just had to wait out several contracts that TV3 had signed with the programme makers

A lot of this loss can be attributed to start-up costs and as such are once off and not recurring.

A lot of this loss can be attributed to start-up costs and as such are once off and not recurring.

This equates for some of it, but these would have been budgeted for at the time.

These losses are far higher, and continue to rise with each update, than UTV originally planned for so either their start up costs are significantly higher than anticipated (which would heavily call into question the management) or they are not gaining the planned income.

Given the total lack of any foothold in the market, and if anything, the negative response from the audience, I would guess it more the loss of income that the initial start up costs.

Of course the rebranding would have put additional costs which would not have been foreseen, nobody would every plan to rebrand just 8 months after launch.

When are we going to see a slight change to the BBC charter in reaction and then BBC one Leinster HD, BBC one Munster HD?
If they buy TG4 off RTE (they still own that right?) it will pay down some loans, then they're ready to go with BBC one HD Connaught

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,799 ✭✭✭lertsnim

TG4 is not owned by RTÉ

Now ITV owned there'll be no losses. It'll be all profit for ITV as ITV won't be paying 10 million plus for ITV produced programming and keep all advertising revenue.

The British will not be paying their TV licence fee to fund channels in Ireland!

just a note that TV3 has now won the Six Nations rights so this stops UTV Ireland from showing them at the same time as ITV, which will leave a gap in the schedule for at least 5 years.

I wonder did UTVI bid for them? And if they did why did they not ensure they got them? They have mentioned a few times that they didn't have sports due to existing contracts and this comes up they really should have done everything to get it.

As Sky showed, it isn't merely the actual return on the numbers watching said games but the brand recognition that it drives. A 'simple, but costly, way of driving up brand recognition and viewing figures to establish the channel in peoples minds. Therein lies the main problem, people just don't consider it at the moment

Wonder what ITVs plan for UTV Ireland is then, obviously not keeping the schedule on a par with the rest of ITV if they are not covering the rugby.Although the rights are shared with BBC,is that right? I suppose UTV I didnt go after the rights because of the ITV buyout!

ITV have Ireland and England & Italy "home" matches BBC has France Wales and Scotland "home" matches.
