With Nick Larkin scoring his maiden First-Class century overnight in his second Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales it has me thinking that we could put out an XI who have all played first class in the last 12 months in either the County Championship or Sheffield Shield and it would be a side that would give Bangladesh or Zimbabwe a serious run for their money in a test.

    1. Paul Stirling
    2. William Porterfield
    3. Ed Joyce
    4. Gary Wilson
    5. Niall O'Brien
    6. Kevin O'Brien
    7. Nick Larkin
    8. Graeme McCarter
    9. Tim Murtagh
    10. George Dockrell
    11. Peter Chase

Admittedly the bowling is a bit weak but all still capable of getting 20 wickets in a match, and that's just who have played FC this year. You would also have Max Sorensen and Craig Young on the bowling side and John Mooney & Andy Balbarnie with the bat. Not a bad squad of 15 to have!

For the first time I can remember we have genuine depth and competition for places. Great to see and long may it continue to grow with the number of youngsters on the rise.

This depth can only be helped by the Inter-Pro's as well, just a pity there aren't more ODI's for us to play every year against the full members.

Fair play to the lad especially when you consider the opponents had Sayers who is a serious gun and will probably play test cricket in the next 12 months, while Botha is still pretty good spinner.
