Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Guys, can anyone recommend a strength and conditioning book specifically for distance runners? or a strength and conditioning coach?

    Thanks

McMillans dvds are very good. Start from beginner onwards

You could try the guys in Functional Training in town, I think they run strength and conditioning programmes. I have only gone there for deep tissue massage so I don't really know anything about that aspect of it. They have lots of videos on the site for strength work and form which are very useful.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1408155613/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=4JN512DRO922&coliid=I1XNBUA1PT2TX1

Haven't bought this yet so can't really recommend it but have it on my Amazon wish list.

    Might be worth a chance.

there is a personal trainer operating out of the sports centre in trinity college
called Andy Kidd. He is a former middle distance runner and advertises himself as a strength coach for runners

    His website details are http://www.akstrength.com/

I used him in the past in preparation for a marathon and found myself running with better form and greater flexibility and was making good progress but foolishly decided to play a game of football and damaged acl (from a clumsy tackle and not due to lack of strength).

I plan to use him again when i finish rehab and get back running.

Thanks for the book recommendation Pointer 28, looks interesting.

Check out "Kinetic Revolution 30 Day Challenge", might be of interest to you.

Which ever you decide on, books or coach,

It is very important to remember any strenght training should be done in this order, Mobility, Stability, Load.

DO NOT put on Load without having the 1st 2 in order,
Have a look at this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8G6jkEf1uI
