I am a newbie looking for a bit of advice please. Complete beginner with pretty much zero knowlegge of Kayaking but am interested in getting into it. I intend to do some basic training first off with a view to buying a boat somewhere down the line. I live on the East Coast and would mainly be interested in sea/lake paddling. I was wondering what sort of boat would be most suitable for this purpose. If anyone could give me a rough idea of basic/essential kit that someone would need to get up and running that would also be very helpful. Lastly if anyone knows of anyone who offers one to one training so as to get up and as fast as possible that would be great.

    Thanks

I'd suggest a 10 - 11 foot touring kayak. My favorite at the moment is a 10.5 foot Dagger Jive. This has a rear hatch and drop skeg; pretty awesome for beginner to intermediate sea and lake paddling, plus you can tackle easier rivers in it.

Other gear is a nice paddle; don't go for the most basic aluminium. Buoyancy aid, wetsuit, basic booties, spray-deck, cag and possibly a helmet.

We've got our gear in the past from these three guys:
