    After the excellent Device 6 and Year Walk, Simogo continue their successful narrative experiments with the Sailor's Dream.

    The developers here face the 'is this even a game' argument head on with a title that is free of traditional challenge / mechanics and instead focuses entirely on mood and story. It makes fascinating use out of text, music, audio and visuals to communicate its story - music particularly plays a role quite unlike I've seen in a game before, but exactly how is well worth discovering for yourself.

    Time and memory are key to the Sailor's Dream elusive, subtle storytelling, and the former is cleverly implemented with design choices that encourage the player to take their time and revisit the game for short periods. Meditatively paced, it's a game that wants you to soak in the details, the atmosphere and the ideas. There are no easy answers, and that's a relief when so many games have a tendency of over-explanation.

    The Sailor's Dream is unlike any other game you've played - there are some similarities to Simogo's previous games, but it also diverges in unique and even provocative ways. There's nothing 'traditional' about this game, and so it's both beautiful and quietly radical.
