Dog trackers (GPS etc) ... any recommendations/warnings

Josh is a beagle and likes to ...roam! He doesn't get off the leash much but down on the beach he loves to run through the dunes and I'm often worried he wont come back. (He will, of course, just when HE wants to... stubborn bugger!)

Does anyone have any positive/negative experiences with GPS/GPRS trackers?

The sort of thing that reports the dogs position to a smart phone?

    Thanks!

You can get something like http://www.pettracker.com/pet-gps which says that it will alert you if your dog gets out of it's defined 'home' area. Whether it would work on a walk I don't know, but I don't see why not.

I've considered getting the tile - https://www.thetileapp.com/how-it-works - it could be handy but it only has a range of 100ft.

I got a tile for one of my dogs whose microchip has wandered down under his chest, for fear he went missing and no one scanned him there. Anyway it worked great for a day and then one of my other dogs chewed it off him, sigh!!! They're very light and not very durable...just a word of warning if you have chewers!!!
