Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In my experience, people with the blue badge in the car see it as a perk that comes with the car and use it themselves all the time, even if they are not disabled and have nobody disabled with them.

Well blanch is really awkward for me to get to. Although when penny's opens up in lv it will probably mean more trips shopping for me. It's all bad for me.

what's the safest car park in Liffey Valley, in regards to least likely to get your car broken into?

Don't know if there's an advantage of one over the other? The purple and red tend to not be as busy, and the boots one (can't remember if it's green or yellow) is busiest and also closer to the main road and the housing estates if that makes a difference? They do have the LV car park van driving around them all, not sure if they're just looking out for cars parked where they shouldn't be or actually seeing what's going on.

Never had my car broken into in LV, even left it over night a few times there.

I've known people who've had break ins and one who had the car stolen but all a long time ago, nothing in the last 10 years

I've been going to LV since the day it opened the guts of 20 years ago. I've never had any trouble with / in the car parks and I know of nobody else who has had problems. In contrast I have personally witnessed 3 robberies in Blanchardstown car parks over the years (ladies purses snatched and thieves jumping into cars and driving off)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 450 ✭✭Fagashlil

I remember when it first opened there used be awful trouble on the footbridge, I went to the school across the road and manys a time we were told about yet another incident, friend of my brothers got threatened with a syringe one evening. God I feel old now as that was back in the 90's:eek:

read something about that a few days ago, hopefully the 60 or so new shops aren't just women's clothes shops

Indeed, SD_DRACULA. There's nothing there for men to do unless you are into clothes buying, which I'm not. Bring on some outdoors shops, electronics stores, a computer discounter like media market (very succesful in continental Europe) would be good too. Even a TK-Maxx and some price discounters would help. Halfords? Tools shop?

The offer of Liffey Valley is extremely limited compared to its main competitors like Blanchardstown and Dundrum, although parking and traffic are far better than both. The owners plan to sell it but there's no hope they'll get the 1 billion for it that they are looking for, the way it is now

Men like tools. Women like clothes. What year are we in?

Anyway, there's already a Halfords there (unlike Blanch and Dundrum). Tools shops?

    Gas stuff

Even the mens clothes are limited – UK high streeters that specialise in women's clothes and offer mens stuff as an afterthought.

There's a Halfords in Liffey Valley retail park and a PC world. A currys in the main centre.
A tk maxx in liffey valley would probably do well, but sounds like hell to me, it'd be chaos.

Mirraswell call it December so! I wonder will they be doing the secret sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,858 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

I know they started the recruitment for jobs there anyhow.

    Liffey Valley is improving alot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭5500

6th of December was the last opening date I heard, wonder how big the store itself will be, I can only imagine what it's gonna be like getting parking up there once it opens

  • Registered Users Posts: 20 alzo93

Yeah, they're hoping to get the keys to the store around the 27th of November with a view to getting the store open on the 6th of December but the date is far from a certainty apparently.

The store will be around 56,000sq feet - it'll be the biggest store in Ireland I believe they said. I was at the recruitment day and they were talking a lot about the new store. They're even going to be trying out a new uniform for their staff - much more casual than their current one.

Side note: did anyone else on here apply for a job here and heard anything since the interviews?

how the hell did you get past the questionnaire? my missus did it and even i found the questions confusing.

Yeah I thought the questionnaire was very hard for the job it was. They offered me a 15-20 hour contract when I said minimum id take is 30. I couldn't leave a full time job for that.
My other half got offered 25-30 and he is working in retail years.
I wonder are they offering anyone a 39 hour contract?

Penneys opening date confirmed for Dec 6th. 368 staff to be employed. That's a serious amount of staff for one store...it must surely be the biggest in Ireland when it opens? It will span over 59000 square feet!!

It's a massive store alright. The ground floor alone is huge.

For comparison, that's about half the size of Tesco Maynooth. Or a fifth of the size of IKEA.

For a clothes store that is massive alright!

Have you been to Tesco Naas its huge too I think it bigger than the Maynooth one which is as you said also very big.

Sure is. Can,t see Tesco filling a store that big with just clothes but no problem to Penneys. Can,t wait for it to open.

I don't really get the hysteria over another Penny's opening. I get they're good value, but it will be selling the same stock that's already available in multiple existing Penny's shops around Dublin. Is it the convenience or the fact its a new shiny shop?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,319 ✭✭✭emo72

I don't have to drive far anymore. My quality of life improves. Small things

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭5500

^^^ Most likely convienience, Save's a trip to Dundrum or Blanch, either of which cost's on either toll's or parking plus the hassle of getting to both as opposed to just driving down the road.

    +1

And the traffic flow + parking around Blanch in December is a disaster. I'd avoid it if I can.

Liffey Valley is going to be mayhem when Penney's opens for the first day or two. It'll be like the opening of B&Q again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭5500

I'd say it will be mayhem for the month and into January too. Generally at Christmas it tends to be nuts trying to get parking but In fairness to the security they get out to the roundabouts ect and try to keep things moving.

Might be better off parking in the retail park and walking across to save yourself from roadrage, or in the m&s car park which tends to be a bit quieter

The one in swords employs around 250. More common up to Christmas.

The larger Penneys stores have a far better selection of stock. The Mary Street store is fantastic. It will be great for those who don't live in Dublin to travel to Liffey Valley as it's so accessible.

It's the closest Pennys for a lot of people outside of Dublin in Kildare for example. For maybe 100k people it has moved the closest Pennys from about an hour each way away to 20 minutes or less away.

There is no comparison between traffic chaos at Liffey Valley and Blanch. All shopping centres get busy in the run up to Xmas but Blanch is almost impossible to get parking in during a normal Sunday and it's worse again in December

You're right, LV is miles ahead traffic and parking wise compared to Blanch. But I think the point some people are making is that with all the new shops / restaurants (in particular Penneys) the traffic / parking is going to be a lot worse over the next few weeks. They are probably right.

This should have been anticipated by the owners and additional parking should have been in place by now. How planning permission for these major extensions was secured without more parking being a condition, is beyond me. I guess that still is planning in Ireland in 2016 for ya. Nothing learned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,006 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

Should put a LUAS or a train line in there the way things are going! JOKE.

Plenty of parking in LV. Up at the Marks and Spencer end the purple car park is often relatively empty. But then the snowflakes would not want to walk a bit either, but that's their problem!

I don't like shopping centres at all. But then again I am within 20 minutes of town.

Delighted for those further out who will enjoy this. Happy Christmas parking everyone!

Actually the closest decent Pennys for people in Kildare would be in Newbridge. It does give more people that live in the county's around Dublin and in the Dublin suburbs a lot more choice do.
I look forward to going to it myself. Always nice to have a new shop to go to and more choice.

not according to the planners. The application to build the ice ring was approved and the part to build a multi-storey was rejected..

Not if you're in Celbridge, Maynooth, Leixlip or Kilcock, that's about 50k people just there.

I lived in North Kildare for 22 years and I would have never considered going to Newbridge, that could just be me but I was under the impression others were the same.
