well if you want it fresh Zaph, you'd definitely be disappointed. Drinks only.

Well if they're still selling Hobgoblin at €1.95 a pint when I go there I think I'll get over it quickly enough. :)

Doubt it. The cheapest I have seen Hobgoblin go for is 2 EUR in Aldi :)

Nope, Murt saw it cheaper in Wetherspoons :D

    Up there last night.

I gave in a fiver for two pints of Hobgoblin ale.

I got E1.10 change. I know that it's a sale item but how on earth do they manage to sell it so cheaply.

Last time I paid E1.95 for a pint was back in the 80's:D:D:D

Any time I have been there its so quiet. Definitely class this as a restaurant more than a pub.

Saying that I've never been on a Friday or Saturday night. Tends to be late lunch Saturday or Sunday.

Can anyone describe a Saturday night around 9 or 10? What's the crowd like?

Its a mix of college students and couples all very relaxed and been there a few times on Fridays/Saturdays at this time and all very well behaved.

I was there on a Sunday evening two weeks ago around 8:30pm. Shortly after sitting down a glass somehow fell from upstairs. It smashed near a table that another group were sitting at. Very bizarre. No injuries. That group were given a free round of drinks.

I was impressed with the selection of beers and the great prices. I had 3 drinks and tried a different one each time.

I had a bottle of the lovely 8 Degrees Barefoot Bohemian Pilsner for about 3.25.

I also had a pint of Shipyard American Pale Ale (decent) and a pint of Abbot Ale (too flat for me).

See the list of drinks online.

    Can anyone recommend the breakfasts?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭Staplor

Had an all day breakfast which was good.

I'd like to try the breakfast, just haven't had the opportunity.

Went over twice for breakfast wasnt impressed either time, portions are big but both times it was just warm and didnt enjoy them at all. Cany say it was bad or anything just very meh.

Im not a picky eater and the best part of the brekky imo was the coffee.

Abbot Ale is quite nice considering it's only €2.50 a pint.

I was there last night and it was freezing. All that glass and doors constantly opening. Half the people had coats on!

I think it is a good summer pub, bright and airy, plenty of room to sit outside.

In the winter, it is just not cosy enough.

Planning to head here on Saturday around 6 for some grub and moreso pints. Their menu with prices seems to have disappeared? Also has the teething problems of cold food, etc... be done with?

Iv'e been about 5/6 times morning and night time, last time about 2 weeks ago.

Drink wise it's great, food wise it's TGIF's or Captain A's.

We've never had a problem but you would know that the food may have been par cooked and reheated, IMO no big deal for a €10 or less meal.

It is a cold pub when not full which is most of the time.

Very clean, nice staff, no trouble that iv'e seen.

That'll do, just looking for a few pints and a quick bit to eat before heading to a party in Blanch village! Been in other Wetherspoons but never seen the level of bad reviews this one got.

I've been there on two Sundays over the last three weeks for a later brunch and an early lunch.

I like it a lot. But it's a big place and always look empty. I wonder are they making money at all???

Spoons tend to work on 1-1.5% margin

Not a chance, but they can afford to take the hit, for how long though.

I've been in a number of Wetherspoons in the UK and the food wasn't great. Having said that though, it did have all the regular beers such as Carlsberg and really s*** Guinness for the same price as their "craft beers" but I suppose you get what you pay for.

The Carlsberg they have in the Great Wood is E3.50 per pint, but its only 3.8%ABV, and they import it themselves.

Personally, I'd much rather the Ghost Ship @ E2.50 a pint and 4.5% ABV
