I wonder, does anybody know what kind of speed the Belmont travels at? Does it run any slower than usual to give the passengers a more comfortable journey?

50 or 60 mph depending direction of travel.

Belmont in Heuston this morning (17th). Noticed 216 with a fast tick-over rather like the Enterprise when HEP was being used. Does this mean that the Belmont is using HEP?

Noticed it last night in Waterford (at least 30 mins) and passing Muine Bheag this morning and 216 was at top notch as well. Usually just a few minutes before departure.

Don't think HEP in use as the sound was to clear or its soft on power usage.

It was running continuously at high rpm while stopped at P2. The sound was quite noticeable. Later 079 hauled the train to Inchicore.

Yeah but to me didn't sound stressed enough to be using HEP. Just your standard high rpm before a normal departure but just constantly in this case mostly likely set by driver for whatever reason.

Air leak somewhere in the train causing the compressor to run continuously perhaps?

216's external HEP connections have been removed and plated over. Also HEP mode is now isolated on all 201s recently overhualed from last year.

216 has a compressor fault which is causing it to run in high revs. The 201's do this to build up air.

Hopefully fixed yesterday, Inchicore were made aware of the fault.

    And that's a wrap.

216 has just arrived into Heuston with the Belmond Grand Hibernian from Roscommon running a few minutes early and bringing the 2016 season to an end.

2017 season begins late next month.

There will be a surprise change in the itinerary this year due to weekend engineering works on the Belfast line........

.......(hint) we discussed it last year in this thread and some seemed to suggest it will never happen.

Is it the inclusion of Waterford?

Waterford Station will something of a cultural experience.

No I see that it went there last year..so do tell.

It is due to make a trial run to/from Wexford in a few weeks time with a view to running to Wexford on a Saturday as it won't be able to visit Belfast some of the weekends due to engineering works.

Surprised no one mentioned the Rosslare line :)

That is what I was hoping,

Any rail cruise of Ireland without the Wexford line, is like Hamlet without the Prince.

Not really, it was so obvious from the outset but it was overlooked for some reason. Most scenic route left on the island by a mile.

Besides the views on the train, what's there to see in Wexford/Rosslare and will they overnight it in Dublin?

Wexford Town's nice enough, some good restaurants. The Irish National Heritage Park and Johnstown Castle are nearby. What sort of things do they do in other locations?
