Only people in the circle or who have benefitted on the back of their government will vote for them which is very few. Reasonable will not vote for them.

Seems you think you understand something you know nothing about either, luvvy.

He's on the mark about water charges hitting E600 a year though, something most pro chargers will deny.

Has anybody any idea why GMC/Sierra was set up legally as a company 15 days after the tender was awarded?

Ireland is actually exempt from water charging regimes under an EU directive:

    http://directdemocracyireland.ie/ireland-exempt-water-charging-government/

    http://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/why-the-irish-government-is-not-required-to-implement-water-charges-on-households-1.2009288#.VG861Xo9EMs.facebook
EU directives are binding. Member states must implement them through national legislation. Article 9 of the water framework directive requires charging for domestic water. There is one exemption. It is known within the European Commission as the “Irish Exemption” because it was won by the Irish and only Ireland qualifies for it. It is found in article 9.4 of the directive.

In 2000, the Irish government brokered this exemption and the inclusion of article 9.4 which formally and legally absolves Ireland and only Ireland from the requirement to charge for domestic water.

It. doesn't prevent us doing the right thing though and implementing a water charge now. The exemption is an historical legacy from times of timid governments without the gumption to take on the topic. Now we have a government of action who is dealing with the issue responsibly despite the mud slinging from the delusional.

FG/Lab are dregs. Yes men to big business, yes men to EU bullying. Over the last 3 and a half years they have forgotten the people they are supposed to represent.

And yes they say that the economy is doing well and Europe is promoting us as the poster boys of Europe for austerity. But to be honest I simply don't believe it. I've been working in finance since 2005 in Dublin City and I am simply not seeing what they say is happening. I think its a f**king ploy to be honest. The IMF left last year and there was a big hurrah and media was reporting it has a huge success. Yet they are back every few months to look at the books. I simply don't believe the positive spin to be honest. Austerity is over they say while they force more onto the Irish people. Why not take the money from the USC if austerity is over or even reduce the USC to enable people to pay the water charges.

Lies, Lie, Lies!! Roll on Dec 10th and our feeling will be made clear to both the Government and the EU. We may be a small nation which is why we have been bullied to kingdom come in the first place but we will be heard!!

exactly !! I made this point ages ago....... get rid of the USC even and people might pay water charges.......

This post is just wrong on so many levels I don't know where to begin

Last bit is kinda ironic though!

Possible cause of being unable to marshall your own thoughts to do so, is that the message is getting through and you are seeing that it is in fact, correct, and that having to acknowledge the change of mind is quite jarring.

Is that a message to Enda ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭SaveOurLyric

Sure nothing's enda's fault is it?
As leader of the country he's seen massive cuts to social services across the board, including homeless projects and drug treatment facilities.

He has. And done it very well. Not being a pleasant thing to have to do does not make it a bad thing to do.

Sure it couldn't be his fault, what with him being a gormless piece of sh1t.

Classy. Impressively thought out. You are clearly a sophisticated political analyst.

There is no need to. The government have added the spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down, and the €600 annual fee will come in time. The populace just got its knickers in a twist on this one and the govt has had to stretch out the implementation.

The day may come when YOU will find €600 hard to come by and that disgusting sense of smugness you employ now won't be any to you at all.

I am already paying it. As is everyone, through their taxes.

I wish every one due to go to this protest march on Wednesday the very best of luck. I wish I could go but I can't due to work and I'm not in a position to pull a sickie.

So why do you want to pay again? Why would someone want to pay for something twice? Would you go to the shop and buy a carton of milk and pay double? Strange..

I dont want to pay again, nor will I. I will always only pay once, it is only the manner of payment that is changing.

I dont consume much milk. So am much happier that I pay for milk as I need it rather than have the government pay for unlimited milk for everyone through my general taxation. And want the same for water : pay according to use and temper the tendency to see it as unlimited and free.

I would hope the majorty of midweek workers that are attending have arranged for a day off or taken holiday and not "puling sickies"

But under the new system you won't be paying according to use? It's unlimited.

    Meeting at 1pm at Dail

"The next major Right2Water event is a National Assembly outside the Dail on International Human Rights Day. This will take place on Wednesday, 10th December 2014 at 1pm.

We will reaffirm our demand that water is recognised as a human right and that the Irish government abolish domestic water charges.

    Please spread the word."

Hes just hoping in the future the government turns around and starts charging under the old system, which can happen if we take the peddle off the gas as regards protests

Ofc if it ever happens that were fleeced for water hell be changing his tune soon enough, although hes already said hes happy to pay 600 euro+ so who knows

Roll on the 10th is all ill say

    Why?

Because if people feel tht strongly about it they shoud be prepared to take a day off work and not skive off by "pulling a sickie".

School in Tallaght asks parents to donate toilet roll and stationary!

    http://www.herald.ie/news/school-asks-parents-to-donate-toilet-paper-in-bid-to-cut-costs-30800388.html

Im beginning to see why the people of tallaght are getting more and more angry.

This country is being destroyed for the likes of Denis O'Brien a man who is already a billionaire.

600 million in charity leaving the country and billions giving to EU nations yet we dont look after our own children and vulnerable members of society.

This protest is anti-people who always paid, given the protesters want it to remain the way it has been, underfunded water services, with boil notices, not enough money to fix leaks, or do major infrastructure projects and to hell to the people who always had to pay and who would finally be getting a small amount of money towards the cost.

I hope there is no backing down on water charges, otherwise we will definitely be having TDs offering another TD piss water to drink again...
